macos 10.2.8 problem of not working psclient = a fix
« on: March 10, 2006, 01:17:07 am »
Hello, I found one answer to the problem--it deals with using gcc3 for recompile instead of gcc4.  See links:

I continue looking for other options-------->

Possible, but probably far more complicated option, links:

Well, I\'m done searching for now.  NOTES: 1)  gcc3.3 compiles universally, gcc4 may be called universally, but in fact forces pre 10.3 out of the games.  2) the final version of gcc4 (with 10.3.9) is optimized for binary play--currently only applicable to very few available mac systems, but quite important for future mac binary platform wishful speeds.  3) The speed benefit of gcc4 is directly targeted at the future mac binary platform, but only compatible with 2 current mac platforms--accomplished by double accessing float point calculators, which, in fact, slows down the current mac platforms.  4) Conclusion: we don\'t need to worry about binary (although gcc3.3 does in fact do this) compatibility until Apple fully implements it into their OS by doing away with their seamless interaction aspect of their current \"binary\" OS.  Also, gcc4 only speeds up Mac binary OS, but right now it will not do much for such systems because the game is not binary universal. [I don\'t condone mac binary \"universal\" apps until Apple goes 150% into mac-binary systems--especially since with gcc3.3 they will be compiled truly Mac universal.]

Errr... hrmm, dfryer needs to keep people more up-to-date. He fixed this problem by changing a compile flag. ;) Thank you for the effort, though.

So I can download the current psclient and it will run on 10.2.8 without stalling, or do I have to go into the client myself and change flags?

The fix which I have posted above is a permanent way for keeping the game universally compatible with all current mac OSes--and several into the future.  [Without having to recompile on 10.2.8 which may not be universally compatible.]

From now on, when dfryer compiles, it\'ll work for OS 10.2. You need to wait for the next binary release which should hopefully happen in a day or two.

All compilation is done with gcc 3.3, libmx was included by an overeager configure check in CS.  When the updater mirrors are .. erm.. updated, then hopefully the java updater (? Cha0s, can you back me on that one?) will be able to get the binaries for 10.2

Howdy there,

So does this mean that just runnung an updater will make our existing 0.3.013 (missing the /usr/lib/libmx.dylib...) functional?

Yep, Java updater will be set to go. I\'ve finished recoding it for basic updates and I\'m working on zip updates (the way I coded it for individual zip updates was crappy). Once dfryer pops things into the repository, I\'ll throw up the new updater. Until then, I\'ll hold off and see if I can fix the zip entries issue.

eggplantboy: once the binaries are up, yes. But not until then. ;)

If he has OS 10.2.8, just read this thread to find out why. If not, more detailed information would be needed.
