Updater Text with a new irritating look!
« on: March 11, 2006, 09:06:51 am »
Ive recently installed Planeshift, and when i run the updater, the text looks like stacked stretched straight lines with ample cap inbetween them, so it even isn\'t english anymore, help please?

I remember there was a time, and I\'m talking about some time ago :P when the updater screwed itself and showed \"bad\" graphics due to a change in bla bla...

So... did you get Planeshift version .13?
If so, when you launch the game, you see graphics correctly displayed?

If your answers were yes, no, then you\'d try upgrading your graphics card drivers, or checking if your comp meets the minimum requirements of the game (there\'s a sticked post about that.)

If your answers were yes, yes. Then weirdly something wrong went with the updater. You\'d download and extract this file on your directory of Planeshift http://www.psmirror.org/psupdater/updater1100.zip  and see if it makes any difference.

If you answered no to the first one, try getting the new client through BitTorrent: http://laanx.fragnetics.com/bt/PlaneShift_CBV0.3.013.exe.torrent

I downloaded the correct version of PlaneShift. (I used BitTorrent)
When I opened the client the graphics were correct, but not the text.
I downloaded your updater link, but when i unpackaged it said \"Unexpected file ending\" and I couldnt use it because there was nothing to click.
I went to control pannel/manage devices and looked at the stuff installed on my computer but i saw nothing that said \"graphics card\" so it must be called something else, more help please?

I just downloaded the updater file, and it opens fine, so I guess something went wrong with your download, anyway, that\'s not very important now as you seem to have definitively an issue with your graphics card, since you state you\'ve downloaded already the latest PS version.

Try this:

Start-Execute-dxdiag (press enter)
Go to \"Screen\" tab.
There you\'ll see the model of your graphics card, as well as its vendor.

Normally that one should be Nvidia http://www.nvidia.com or ATI http://www.ati.com You\'d go to the appropiate website and download new drivers for your card.

Note: If you can\'t find where to download those files, try to post the model of your graphics card as well as the operating system (aka specify windows version)

I can assure you I tried hardly to read that image...
but either I don\'t know how to make it bigger, or you indeed uploaded a really tiny screenshot.
You\'d have tried copying the name, or uploading a bigger image.
Is that an S3? Seems to me that the card has 2 letters as a start...

the only drawback to using photbucket is that if you upload a picture over the size limit, it auto shrinks it so that the file size decreases.  they made a larger than allowed image, and it was shrunk.

@ElvenChaos: try to reupload the shot, but before you do edit the quality of the pic so it isn\'t as crisp, but still readable.  that way the filesize will be much less, and photobucket won\'t make it so small.

Sadly, I\'m going to have to direct you to this thread:  Click Here

You can\'t drive a pinto to the moon anymore than you can do 3D graphics with that computer.  I\'m sorry, but you do not have a graphics card capable of playing modern 3D games.  You will have to get a new card to play games like this.

You have to buy an actual graphics card - what you have now isn\'t capable of running any massive 3D games. They aren\'t too expensive nowadays, and you can get a good one between $100-150, perhaps even lower. Would involve fiddling inside your computer case some, but if you really want to play anything serious, it\'s just a necessity.

Judge: Are you trying to show contempt for this court, Mr Smith?
Smith: No, My Lord. I am attempting to conceal it.
