Programmers needed
« on: March 11, 2006, 04:36:29 pm »
Hello fellow players,
Another person and I are designing a new MMORPG.  We hope/expect it to be a great hit and is going to be very realistic as far as gameplay goes.

We are looking for programmers to volunteer to help program our game.  Our biggest priority at the moment is to build a huge immersive world.  Next will probably be sprites, including players\' characters, creatures, etc...  However, we can use programmers for just about any aspect of the game.

You must however, actually work on it quite a bit per week and follow instructions on how we want it done/how we designed it.  We will probably be working with C++ since most games are programmed for that and we need it accessible/runnable for Windows.  We will have a monthly fee for the game so there will be a profit made when the game comes out.

Pls PM me if you are interested.

Also, PLS PLS PLS do not flame me here as I am being serious and it is unnecessary.

As long as it\'s by someone who didn\'t just come here and post this for their one post it\'s allowed, or at least it has been in the past.

Also, learn to spell before you insult people.

Why should anyone help out with a new project when they can already work on PlaneShift, which is much further in development and not going to collapse..?

It would seem, from his post, that he decided the whole free thing was a bad idea.  Yay money.

You\'re correct, one is intentional and the other is unintentional.  Both are stupid and easily avoidable, however, and therefore one shouldn\'t be worse then the other.  I don\'t see how anyone can take you seriously when you spell like that.  And what the hell is that hyphen thing you put on everything?

Conquest Online, Battle tribes, now this... as far as my knowledge reaches no \"future MMORPG\", which has been announced here ever made it past the concept phase.

I might be mistaken but looking at your post, your knowledge about software developement seems somewhat lacking.

You do realise that a programmers main responsibility is to code not to make sprites.

This part somehow irks me.

It generally is a bad idea to have a group do the design/concept without direct intervention of the coders.

Well, ... games are not programmed for C++, if at all they are programmed with C++.

I hope that you realise that being serious and flames being unecessary dont make a game.

There is far more behind game design than good will and an hour spent on sundays praying in the curch.

Uuu, hell. I love that place. It\'s so nice and quiet, you should check it too Shorty.

:]

Nice nice, seeing people jumping to other\'s necks, the memories, it makes me feel \"just like home\"...
There\'s also nice to see Sep still loves Kiern. Make love not war! Oh the joy!

Why shouldn\'t they?

Anyway, Shorty, about your ideas, ever heard of organization? Well, it\'s just like I\'m going downstairs and screaming \"I want to build a car, who wants to help me?\", though I have no clue how to do that. Grow up, learn, and then come back.

And since when Kiern has his own cute shiny hole? This is not fair!

Generally I have found that if someone has skills that could help with game development, unless they already have their own ideas for their own project(s) they\'ll join an already-existing one if it looks as though it has a better chance of \"survival.\" Granted there is a difference of pay between shorty\'s project and PlaneShift, but considering just how many projects started out only to fail about 5% of the way in, it doesn\'t make sense to me to spend time and effort on something that doesn\'t have a lot of strength to it right now.

If for example shorty13 linked to a website with the project ideas, goals, organization, etc., and it looked as though things were really well-thought out, this would be a bit different. As it stands now however, it\'s too cryptic and unlikely to draw anyone with decent programming skills in.

If you tell him it\'s not going to work all that is going to happen is he\'ll get defensive about it.  No reason not to let him try or put him down for doing so...he will (hopefully) learn from his mistakes.

Mm, agreed on that point. Some more details regarding this project would help, then - and having a website with forums or a wiki will be very useful as well.

I\'m wondering whether you\'ll be using a pre-existing engine or will you be building everything from scratch? How many people are on the team right now (just two from what I gather?) and how much have you established about what you are going for? What is the theme of the MMORPG? Does it have a title yet?

Things like this are vital to mention when you are looking for volunteers.
