« on: March 16, 2006, 02:56:12 am »
While playing the I get a message that says this:
\"This is a message coming back from the server.  You should not normaly be able to see this.\"
Then when I press Okay it quits.

No, I have OptOnline, but our modem is quite old.  I bet that\'s the problem.  Thx.

It happens to me as well and I am on a 256k adsl line (directly via Lan cable) any idea what causes this?

It could be just a dirty line.  With DSL, if you\'re far away from a node you get a worse connection.  (if you have only 256k, that could be an indicator of that, but it\'s just a guess)  Sadly, there\'s nothing we can really do about this.  It\'s something along the path from your computer to the game server in Singapore.  If you post a traceroute, we could try and find it, but it probably wouldn\'t help.

OK I wasn\'t going to post this but it was too strange not to......

It is relevent please bear with me.....

I was deep in the sewers hunting various creatures and had run out of healing potential and was making a flat run for the exit (sewer exit near Josay).  Halfway to the exit I run on the other side of the hall past a Gobble (he will chase but runnig is too fast for them- or so I thought).  A few seconds after I start getting hit by a Gobble (the gobble most likely) as I am running.  He is not doing massive damage (missing mostly) so I continue to run.  I reach the Load wall for the exit (thinking it is a glitch and the load will fix).

I come back to the hyd plaza and he is still hitting me.  I start to run to the tavern for more healing potential.  As I run I notice that there are no NPCs and no PCs for that matter.

In hope against hope that the seller of health is still up I continue my run to the tavern (as I am about to die).  The whole time I am getting hit updates and taking some damage.  I get in the door and I get the above error from server screen.  \"You should not be seeing this\" yada yada.  Client crashes.  Ironically I had been reading this post not an hour before getting the message.

So like a good little boy I come back and reread it.  Brain starts working that perhaps in server side my char had stopped near enough to the Gobble to be taking hits as the client continued to run.  \"Cool\" I thought I\'ll end up in the DR when I get back on.  Shoddy connection and all char stuck in server side near Gobble and I\'m almost dead, he will finish me when I return if he hadn\'t already finished the job (due to crash).  No problem.

Here it gets wierd....

I log back in and my char is fine and dandy in the middle of the tavern????

2 questions....
If my connection was bad why does the server say I was in the tavern when I was getting hit on the whole run? (and was taking damage) (if character position is stored in the server)

How was I getting hit by an Invisible gobble on that long run with damage? (if character position held in client)

I would like to know where char position is stored (if that info is allowed to be released) and thought senario would help track this msg (in future I know this is not a high priority bug)

Edit: btw I have Cable Internet and usually have few connection problems at 1:30 am Monday morning.

It\'s not necessarily just you, it\'s that our server is way off in Singapore with a 1/3 second ping...  Lag happens.

In the case of where the \"position is stored\", both the client and the server quite obviously have to know where you are.  You move on your side, and messages are sent to the server to change your position on that side.  All positions are also sent back to the clients.  To me, it sounds like your connection crapped out, and the server didn\'t register your movements anymore.  Hence, you could go wherever, but the server still thought you were getting your ass handed to you by that gobble.  However, without any more info, it\'s very hard to tell why this happened.  We could have some bug, or we could just need a closer server.  I don\'t really know.
