Harassment for roleplay

Is it permited? I think it should be. However, to remove unnecessary stress from the game it would be nice to invent some sign to show other player that this harassment is not real. For example [RPH] or [sorry for that, just roleplaying:)]. Does this sound like a stupid idea? Oh... I know... it does :D

Interesting concept.  So, you\'re encouraging those who play an ass but are rather nice people in reality to say so?  Probably a decent idea, though, many people who RP a moron usually are just morons...  :/

as long as the people you role play with know its all in char then its fine...

other than that it could be all \"blah blah \'95 harrasment act\" and such.

well, if someone manages to get the game working (yes, it does happen) and logs on and one of the first things they see is you cursing at someone... what do you think their opinion will be..?

having said that what i said isn\'t affected in any way by what you said ;)

as long as other know you don\'t really mean it...

OK, what I\'m saying is that if you log onto PS, you should expect EVERYONE there to be roleplaying.  And if some jerk is cussing another player out, the impression I will get is that that guy/gal is a jerk.  It doesn\'t matter if in real life they are or are not.  They are acting out a character.

This assumption should be safely made by anyone that is playing PS.  I play a \"good and helpful\" character in PS.  This doesn\'t mean I am so in RL.

I don\'t think I should get a little tag that says \"good guy\".

Bottom line, agreed :) However, if the someone being rude/annoying is obviously OOC, that\'s a whole other issue.

I\'m wincing at the word \"harassment\", because while it\'s entirely possible for characters to harass other characters, it\'s usually been players harassing characters/players. Anyway, there was a thread not too long ago about roleplaying an\"evil\" guy with suggestions from people, so clearly not everyone is forced to be cut from the all-is-good-yay mold ;) The key though, as always, is communication - and making sure that other people understand your intentions. All people should be roleplaying, but the reality is that they aren\'t, and we shouldn\'t make assumptions that may ultimately confuse or hurt someone.

Better play it safe, until you know that you no longer have to.

I believe that emotion and behaviour descriptions using \"/me\" and \"/my\" could add some credibility to the roleplaying intention, if you really want to play a nasty character.

Lots of swearing in general dialogues quickly sounds like OOC flaming. But adding descriptions of your rage, your body language, your thinking processes and such, should give people a hint that you are playing in this case.

Yliakum swear words should be different from RL swear words! If I see the f word EVER, that should be an immediate evidence of OOC.

That way, people who wouldn\'t know, wouldn\'t know they were swearing.

Hi all,

Yes, the IC/OOC issue is key. I\'ve had several situations in game in which I couldn\'t at first tell whether the \"harasser\" was in or out of character. I\'ve decided to deal with it in character myself and wound up having some pretty rich roleplaying sessions.

Harassment can be defined as any sort of unwanted contact.

Anyone at any time can decide that any instance of contact is unwanted, therefore any action and anything you say can be taken as harassment depending on who\'s around.


As far as harrassment as in being a jerk, if it\'s in character and it isn\'t cheating or exploiting the game mechanics, then I say go for it.  Just make sure it stays in game and in character.  That means no /tells, no IRC, and IMo preferably no forum posts.



Since everything we do in game is supposed to be in character according to Talad\'s official rules for players, the requirement of \"Making sure they know it\'s in character\" is null.

The question is, if you\'re really in character most of the time and playing a jerk...why do you care if someone thinks you\'re a jerk in real life?  As long as your attacking their character and not their person I don\'t see how there\'s a need for an announcement of it?  People will either get it or they won\'t, I just don\'t think that\'s going to help much if at all.
