bugs,crashes,lots O' lags,and no quests?
« on: March 20, 2006, 02:18:21 am »
I love this game the concept is good just all the lil things that take away from the awesome gameplay. i can only play for like 10 minutes before it crashes.. i fall off the world, it lags alot i put all the graphic options to minumum and my computer is brand-new. and no NPC will give me a quest at all i try ask them everything i can think of.\"give me a job, give me a quest, can i help you,may i help you. and nothing at all. i update everyday! all my drivers are updated.i realize this is a work-in-progress but the constant \"this is a message from the server u should not be able to see this\" messages are mental.I have no idea what to do now. anyone help me with the crashes, bugs, lags or the quests??

The \"you should not be able to see this\" messages are not from the game itself, but from an odd connection you might have - usually due to wireless. Basically you\'re dropping off the \'net sometimes ;)

Not all NPCs give quests, and all quests have lock-out times; basically NPCs don\'t give quests one after another or one player after another. It may take minutes for them to offer one again, or hours, or perhaps even longer. Ask characters around you in-game for some of the more common and well-known tasks NPCs may require of you.

A computer may very well be brand-new, but that doesn\'t necessarily mean that it meets the minimum requirements - for example many new computers still have onboard graphics controllers instead of actual video cards. So unless you help us out by posting your exact system specs, we can\'t give you further suggestions. Read some of the stickies about known issues and basic actions you can take to increase the quality of performance for now.

If you can provide more specific details about bugs you have been encountering, we could help you further. However, without any more information there isn\'t much information we could give you in turn.

i apologize for not posting my system specs i have no idea how to find them i am computer-illiterate. i barely know enuff about computers to get me through. i tryed multiple times to get a quest from harquist but to no avail. then i tryed the next day and he finally gave me a task. i do meet all system requirements. some of the problems i have been having are: i \"fall off the world and die\", i fall down and die,the game crashes stating the same message \"this is a message from the server u should not be able to see this\" i do not run wireless i am on a DSL line

i do know i am running Windows XP service pack 2 (definitly XP-not sure about service pack 2- my friend told me that.)

It\'s not a problem, finding your system specs is quite easy :) You can right-click on \"My Computer\" and hit Properties, and under \"Computer:\" you\'ll see your processor type, speed, and your RAM. If you don\'t know what graphics card you have, point to the Start button and click Run. Type \"dxdiag\" (no quotes) in the box and press return. In the new window, go to the Display tab, and read \"Name\" and \"Manufacturer\". \"Name\" is the name and model of your card, and \"Manufacturer\"... is self-explanatory ;)

How is it happening that you are falling off the world and dying? Can you detail when this happens? Is it random, so you could be just standing around just chatting, or are you climbing hills?

It seems that not everything about the \"You should not be able to see this\" message is known, but the usual assumption is that it is something odd with your connection. Hm.. someone else will have to come along and offer some suggestions on that issue.

uh..Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.06GHz
3.07GHz, 480MB of RAM
(and service pack 2 IS right)

And graphic card is: Intel (R) 82915G/GV/910GL Express Chipset Family
Manufacturer:Intel Corporation

i fell of the world twice right by the stairs to the sewer behind the tavern on the right side towards the plaza direction.

All facts are typed EXACTLY as shown on my computer.

Oof, yeah - that sewer entrance gives a bit of difficulty, and it\'s a fairly well-known issue. Just try to enter carefully, or use the other entrance, and you shouldn\'t have too many problems. Is this the only location you\'ve experienced a fall in?

As for your specs, as suspected the reason the game may lag is because you don\'t in fact have a graphics card - you have an onboard graphics controller, which is below the minimum requirements. Unfortunately there are no suggestions we can make that will increase performace for you, since intensive 3D games require something stronger.

I see..is it normal for PS to take up 98CPU? or does my computer just suk??(

i think that is the only place i fell off the world in.
i constantly die on the stairs by the tarvern going towards the plaza i fall down and die. it made me die 5+ times i always walk down there too..i do not know if this is a game fault or i am just an idiot. (most likely the latter)and where is the 2nd entrance to the sewers? i found the second one when i was lost and i almost died from a rat. but i forgot where it was.?(

Oh yes, PS is a CPU hog :P It\'s normal.

Odd thing about the tavern/plaza stairs.. Have you tried walking backwards (as utterly weird as that sounds) or sideways? Even for a very weak, very new character, the stairs don\'t (or at least shouldn\'t) pose any problems.

For the sewer second entrance, follow the city wall to the left of Harnquist (facing the front of his shop).

Ouch. That\'s happened to me a couple times. *shifts his look to the stairs*  Stairs are definitely not my friend.

What helps me, at the tavern sewer exit, is, instead of walking through the side of the sewer stairs, go to the top until the hill stops you from moving any further, and just follow against the hill to get out without falling off the world. This keeps you from walking through the side of the stairs \'cause you\'re at ground level when you\'re at the hill.

The other sewer entrance doesn\'t have this problem, and may actually be \"safer\" to enter and exit. The ladders aren\'t as steep either.

thanks for the advice Vaylos but i WAS on ground level when i fell i wasn\'t walking through the stairs i was walking beside the stairs when i fell. i will look for the second sewer (i haven\'t got a chance to play yet, dam schoolwork) and last time i played moonwalking the stairs DID help i didn\'t \"fall down and die\" so as long as i try not to fall off the world i am fine.
