religious iconography and numerology?
« on: March 20, 2006, 11:11:20 pm »
alright, I think i may have stumbled onto something involving monotheist religion and numbers however i need to know what the ratio for a true christian cross is so that i can test my theory, is it safe to assume that it would be the same ratio at our armspan by height? the theory is that the signs are all inter-related and thus a pattern.

Edit: forgot to put forward my question.

Anybody else facinated by this or know any good recourses for sights like this? I am asking here because this is the only forum where i have seen intelectuals.

Areas for research:

Zoroastrianism (preChristian monotheism)
Judiasm (preChristian monotheism)
Hinduism (preChristian monotheism)
Gnostics (preChristian monotheism)

It\'s also of note that Vishnu has 10 manifestations (We are in the age of Kali presently for instance, I believe.  The 9th manifestation of Vishnu, with a 10th to come who will bring about the end of the world and judgement to everyone.  Hindu didn\'t just do three in one, they did ten in one.:)

If you want to explore the numerology of it, research the works of Jewish Mystic scholars.  Reading over Revelations of the New Testament might lead you to some interesting things as well.

Edit:  In answer to your question, part of the problem is that numerology is a matter of mysticism.  It isn\'t taken entirely seriously by the academic community, to my understanding.  There is a lot of literature to it though.  If you want to look at other forms of numerology for comparison, you might want to look at Roman architecture, fibonacci sequences, golden ratios, ratios in the paintings and works of Da Vinci, physics constants of the universe (there\'s some 25 of them and they are all EXACTLY right to support life, according to some).

Do a search on the Quran and numerology.  There\'s some interesting stuff there.

yeah, i did a search on the golden mean but i cannot find anything on theta which confused me. I wanted to know the number sequence of theta and the longest part of Pi. i want to learn Phi along with the 233/144 thing. i also wanted to look at numeral constants in religious iconography with a grid in the middle.

Width:height of the cross ... My guess would be the \"golden cut\":

a : b = b : a+b

Sorry, I meant the golden section (I\'m not native english): ~0.618 : 1.0 =  1.0 : ~1.618

Maybe you can read more about the Christian cross as well.
