IMO, there should be both types of games - the giant commercial quality and free ones, just like with regular commercial software and their free alternatives (office applications, 3D applications, browsers etc). No reason why they can\'t exist in parallel to each other.

Also, there is nothing wrong with setting your goals high. If you aim for the best, you might at least arrive 1/2 of the way.

I play Planeshift and Guildwars, and it\'s obvious which one I like more.. Guildwars.. For those who didn\'t quite get that.

But when Planeshift is finished, it will kick the crap out of Guildwars.. Simply because there is tonnes to do (RP, Animal Training, Alchemist, Mine, Create maps.. etc) and it doesn\'t focus entirely around combat. :)

(even though I would like Planeshift combat expansions, along with pvp and all that >_< )

I dont want to diss on PS because i love it, but putting it on a level with WOW is absurd, and saying it will be just as popular is doubly absurd.

Same thoughts here.

Quote
- We discussed the \"aim\" many times in the past and come up with a number of points. We have plans for providing a lot of inspiration for your characters to have something to do in the world of PlaneShift. We care about the problem, but it\'s still a bit early to enable it fully
- A character can search fame and popularity by creating new powerful guilds that will increase in wealth and members, creating powerful alliances with NPC-managed guilds and merchants and with other guilds

Focusing a little more on crafting skills rather than the fight system would maybe be a good step towards these two items.

Quote
- The hydlaa city and other main cities have to fight for the incoming invasions from the Labyrinths. New creatures, new techniques, new tunnels are dig to attack the city and no one is safe without brave heroes to defend the cities. (In the future you can expect to find cities conquered by evil NPCs)

This also means there is no such thing as \"evil\" playing characters. (characters that desire to destroy/dominate Yliakum). Which is something that should have been made very clear. It\'s understandable that it is too early for a proper PS RP plot to exist, but it should be positive to have people stepping towards the right direction already.
Else, some people might feel a shock once the setting gets enforced.

I do think some procedures could be rethinked in order to better accomplish these aims we\'ve seen described.

IMO, GW is a good game as single-play , but if we consider this game as an MMORPG.. it\'s sux!!

Money means nothing to those guided by raw ambition, like Acraig and them.

While I should let acraig speak for himself, I call BS on this one!  Money would mean not having to have another job and just spend time working on PS!  But until some wealthy benefactor decides to pay us $1mil to be made the Octarch of the 4th level, it\'s not a reality.

It is true that money isn\'t required by everyone who spends a large portion of their effort on the game, but it doesn\'t \"mean nothing\" :)

Oh, so people who aren\'t receiving certain pieces of paper automatically do crappier work?

I don\'t know for sure what shadow meant by that, but Kaleriss, everyone who is/was ever devoted to something motivated only by the experience in it, knows that when you get (even more if better) payed to do it, you can devote yourself even more. So, i don\'t think it\'s a question about \"crappier work\", but a question of time - you know, people still GOTTA work to live and all - work that takes time and energy they\'d love to employ in a lot of other things, like PS, and that would make these things even better with a lot of faster modifications and adjustments.

It\'s not really a matter of whether they get paid or not, it\'s a matter of your tastes. PS and WoW are two very different games with different styles. Yes, they have similarities, but so do all mmorpgs.

where do you pick up coins at!!!

If you join the Explorers Guild most of us have maps of our bedroom and living room floors, behind lougesuits, etc., all marked with the best spawn spots. Just do a few circuts now and then, right-click, pick up..

Then again, we\'re going to have to pay for PS at some stage. -_-

It says almost everywhere on the site and in-game that Planeshift will ALWAYS be free!

I honestly would rather play PS than WoW. WoW doesn\'t give a darn about IC or OOC, and the graphics are too... too... dismal. And I hate being challenged to random duels.

Well, that\'s not quite true.  I do have bills to pay and money is very important.  I put the same effort and ambition into my regular job as I do for PS.   It\'s just different motivator for me and different rewards.   If I could earn a living by working on PS I would seriously consider re-evaluating my life.  But I make a good living now and enjoy my work.

And talking about paying for games... I just renewed my subscription to WoW. The money to play time ratio on that is crazy.  I think it\'s well worth the cost.   People spend thousands on their cars or other gizmos whats a few hundred in games?

I bought a DVD drive just so I can play Oblivion.

Are you kidding!? It\'s an amazing game! You haven\'t heared anything good about it? Have you had your head buried under a pillow for the last month?

You wouldn\'t want to get the PC version? Huh?! Because console versions are all.. you know .. RUBBISH! It isn\'t bad on ps2 but the clarity, definition and quality on PC wins by a mile. You strange person!! X-]
