XP FIREWALL
« on: April 06, 2006, 05:43:13 pm »
hello could someone please help me i am trying to help a newbie enter the game but were having a problem this player doesnt have a normal firewall they have a fully up to date XP firewall  & when this player starts PS it doesnt give  them an option to allow PS to run i am at a loss on what to do please can someone assist me to help this newbie into the game

okay when we try to run the updater once the updater open it says
we get a pop that say
\"critial error: ran out of mirrors! game can not be updated.\"
then when we hit okay it closes everything
then when i do get into the updater it says
\"click update to update version 1.1.0.0\"
then we click update & it says
\"checking regersty version...\"
\"could not connect to mirror mir2\"
\"trying mirror 1\"
\"mirror lacks a version file cant use it.\"
\"trying mirror 3\"
\"mirror lacks  a version file cant use it.\"
\"trying mirror 4\"
\"mirror lacks a version file cant use it.\"
\"trying mirror backp\"
\"mirror lacks a version file cant use it.\"

please realize that the updater says 1.1.0.0
but when we go straight into game threw \"psclient\" it says they are running version  0.3.013
& this is how it is for all of us even my game & i have no problems with PS it says the updater is version 1.1.0.0 & my PS game is version 0.3.013 when we go straight into the game it says \"server has failed\"
now we do not get any kind of pop ups from the windows XP firewall  when we run PSclient, PSsetup, PSupdater i have even tried to turn off the xp firewall but it didnt change anything which im not suprized because  even players that use other firewalls like norton or blackice or zone alarm if a program doesnt work when the firewall is on then you turn off the firewall it still doesnt work because the firewall still has some kind of control over the computer there has to be away to allow PS to run threw the XP firewall i went threw the Exceptions to see the list of programs \"allowed\" to run threw the XP firewall the PSclient is not listed

PLEASE help me

Mmm... googled across this which may be helpful. If you\'re going to add PS as an exception for the firewall this way, be sure to add the updater too. The steps are pretty clear I think.

*edit*

Yes, that would usually mean that you either downloaded the  new client version completely, or updated from 0.3.012. You\'re supposed to have 0.3.013 and 1.1.0.0, so it\'s fine.. :) But updating is still necessary, especially when bug fixes come through.

yes  i just was editing my post  & when i was done i seen your post  so yes the version of the updater & client  is different & i know its suppose to be like that  i will pass on the info & have them follow the steps for the link you gave me  & have them add the updater &  the psclient

so you know im very thankful for this help & the link you gave me is very very awsome  if i had to do it myself it looks like it breaks it down to where a child could get threw it ;)

at this point they need to know what  name & port to use  would it be PSclient  as the name & port 80 ?

i ask & say port 80 because i know the most commen port used for programs is port 80 correct ?

PlaneShift uses port 7777, and if it needs some sort of name attached, \"Laanx\" will usually do.

You mentioned in the error report that the updater actually tells you:

Quote
\"click update to update version 1.1.0.0\"

But you already have 1.1.0.0..?

Did you download the new client entirely (0.3.013) or did you actually try to update from the last version?

Try downloading the new updater manually from here: http://www.psmirror.org/psupdater/updater1100.zip

That person should probably get a forum account and post as well, since going through another individual can create an interesting game of telephone sometimes :P

I\'ve just given a link to the new updater, not the whole client. So if PlaneShift is entirely uninstalled, it will have to be reinstalled again.
