differences at hit points
« on: May 01, 2006, 12:13:35 pm »
i think that how much you hit with your weapons at various body parts should be different, Like if you hit someone on the hand and on the hit you get about the same amount of damage. In real life a sword through your head would mean death, and not living on as a hit on your hand will not take that much damage as well as your legs.

Like in Fallout? Then you should need a new "hit" skill. And when are you thinking about implementing a target system? Fallout was turnbased. PS is realtime.

look in the system tab "player hits mob on the hands for 200 damage, player hits mob on the head for 200 damage" There should be a difference when hitting at thoose points. lke "player hits mob on the hands for 25 damage, player hits mob on the head for 200 damage player hits mob on the torso for 150 damage" and so on

I think since the parts are already targetted that each part should have a HP value.  If the head takes 200 hp and the character only has 218 HP, this character should be dead as there is no way a head can have the majority of the HP total.  And if a hand takes 200 HP in the same example above, it should be useless, ie. -1 attack per round.

This is probably the intention anyway, to be implemented soon(tm) of course.

the concept of Hit Points and Targetting areas to hit contradict each other.

You either have one or the other...

Doesnt matter if your a clacker an ubernaught or a human but if someone stabs you in the neck your or heart your likely to die.. If they do this with a dagger, a nail or a claymore this makes no difference either.

Just as easily soo you could sever someones main artery on any point of their body and cause a fatality

Hitpoints were invented way back in the beginning for games like D&D because they simply couldnt develop all the complex rules for what happens once you've been struck in some area..
ie broken leg, hit in one eye.. or having your sword arm chopped off.

you would have to completely re-engineer the combat rules and also factor in things like armour and magic..
and then you would have to redesign all of the models so that they could stagger, limp and crawl..
