Got a small problem
« on: May 01, 2006, 01:26:41 pm »
ok I don't know if this is supposed to happen, but everytime I try to minimize the PS window another window comes up that asks me if I want to save a diagnostic file. The number for it is 00C0B49D. When I do this the game than ends and I have to start it all up again. Quite annoying... Can anyone help?

EDIT: Dumb me forgot to post my specs. Don't know if this is too much...:

Your graphics card is bad to begin with.
And did you run PS fullscreen or windowed? I always run PS windowed and than I can just go browsing without it crashing on me.
We're not evil. We're simply amazing.

Ya I know about my graphics card, but it shouldn't be a large problem considering I run games with better graphics than this(no offense). And I run it fullscreened. I'll try it in window and see if I get anywhere.

The problem is becuase you minimised the game.  It crashes when that happens.  Soooo, don't for right now.  known issue yadda yadda.

Actually, the crash on minimization of the window should have been solved in the previous version.

@neko: are you sure it happens still?

@Jarcor: can you try to send the diagnostic file following the istructions on the "Crashes and Diagnostic Files" thread?
however, on first sight I wouldn't be surprised that it is your graphic card the problem. The other games you are referring to most probably uses DirectX routines instead of OpenGL one, on a wild guess.

Yeah the game crashes when you minimize
well atleast in my case this is what happens
if your in full screen mode and alt-tab to another app (thus minimising it), the PS crashes.

Then don't do that.  :)

are you suggesting I dont use my computer for anything else while I am playing PS ?
or that I dont run the game in full screen mode?..

I hate playing games in Window mode it doesnt allow you to get immersed in the game.

hmmm... multitasking anyone ?

There is this simple solution of running your game in windowed mode, but changing the size of the window so that it covers all of your screen except for the taskbar.

ooooorrrrrr, auto hide the task bar like some people do.    :whistling:

FullScreen Mode without it being full screen.    ;)

And to answer Ary, yes, I saw that it was mentioned that it was fixed as well, but I think I read somewhere that it wasn't fixed yet.  I just never really wanted to test it and since I never have to minimise the game, I just played it safe and didn't minimise it.  I'll do some tests when I have my next day off.  (My work schedule is a bit wierd, on for a few days then off for a few days, repeat.  Gives me free time on a off day, but no time for anything but work on a work day.  *shrugs*)

I tried that.. but no matter how much you try to resize the window or move it around.. you still get a blue border showing in windows XP..
So your choices are to go into windows and change all their window frame colours to black..
or just live with the bug till its fixed..

Even in full screen mode if you just playing normally without alt-tab..If you have Scheduled tasks in the background.. like a virus program, or a tv recorder, media player etc,  that takes focus from the PS game with popups and dialogue windows.. then it crashes PS crashes as soon as this happens.

Its more of a nuisance than a problem because unlike Client only games you dont lose your saved position when the game crashes so all you need to do is log back in again after 30 seconds.. however it certainly does happen quite often.

That blue bar is around 50 pixels in height - and you can always change it to a less distracting color, like silver. And you can move it completely up off your screen (or at least until 2 pixels are showing only). I've done this multiple times. If the border distracts you so much, that's pretty weird.

Anyway, I've just run the client in fullscreen mode and alt-tabbed at least five times successfully with no crash.

I'll send you the crash dump..

I've only been playing for a week so I defintaly have the latest client installed.

And yes blue is very distracting.. when your runing around in dark areas it looks like theres a hint of blue sky..

anyways the point being,  I was just veryfying the bug that has been seen by others.. certainly is still there.

it might be related to the sound subsystem.. as I have also noticed really patchy sound coming from the game from time to time..
and as other devices that use sound like TVapp and Winamp etc load in background this is when it usually happens.

I managed to get it crashing in
Code: [Select]
gl3d.dll!csArray<csGLUploadData,csArrayElementHandler<csGLUploadData>,csArrayMemoryAllocator<csGLUploadData> >::GetSize()  Line 538 + 0x3 bytes
So I can confirm that the bug is there and it is a new bug. The old bug was related to the sound system where the game tried to stop sounds with the sound system disabled.
