Metallurgy Question
« on: May 03, 2006, 07:26:22 am »
It would be nice to have some kind of FAQ for the basics of Metallurgy.  Even after talking with people, who generally forget one detail or another so that I'm always acting on one incomplete piece of advice after another, it is surprisingly difficult to stick junk in a furnace and melt it.  I still haven't succeeded because nobody seems to want to tell me how to find a 'crafting book' to put in my 'mind slot' so I can smelt rocks.  Dont' take this as some kind of noob tantrum.  I'm okay for the moment, but I wish it were a little clearer what you're supposed to be doing.  I figure something more specific than "you don't know exactly what you're doing with 1 ore yadda yadda" at the very least.  No kidding I don't know what I'm doing with it...

Let's filter out bad language out of our own posts.

Have you browsed through the Crafting subforum (childboard)? There may be a few things there that'll be useful to you. But keep in mind that NPCs aren't decorations only - they can actually tell you things, and give you things, etc.. :}

I did figure it out, and frankly it was despite folks--even well-intentioned helpers tend to give incomplete advice which can be really confusing for something as specific as metallurgy.  I'm not sure how I'm supposed to know that I can't use a skill until I do a quest. Perhaps it could be pointed out in the tutorial or something.  Ah well, all's well that ends well.

I'm not asking for spoiler, but :
I did the metalurgy quest several times, I leveled up, casted lingots ... and so on, but

if I'm right, the goal of metalurgy is to craft items ?

but, crafting items is not implemented yet ?

what is the limit up to which we can go ? (or what can we do now ?) (what has been implemented ?)

Metalurgy is 'stage 2' of crafting items.   The normal process is:

1) Collect raw materials
2) Process materials into refined items
3) Prep the refined items
4) Transform refined items into item components
5) Assemble the final item.

So right now the focus is on steps 1 & 2.  All of these steps are implemented though and there are about 60 different items that can be made. BUT we are slowly working our way up to that to ensure that there are no serious issues at each step.

And where is the crafting subforum?  I have looked all over here, and have yet to locate it.
