multiple account to raid players?
« on: May 03, 2006, 02:55:00 pm »
Happened to me this Tuesday:

Tue 02-May-2006 20:07:06 Herleva
------------------------------------------------

*Herleva spawns in the arena; male Ynnwn starts to talk with her.*

(20:07:06) Godaken says: hi
(20:07:10) Herleva says: hi
(20:07:10) Godaken says: hi
(20:07:15) Godaken says: can you give me a good sword?
(20:07:19) Godaken says: i ll give you a 60 slash long sword
(20:07:39) Godaken says: can you give me a good sword?
(20:07:42) Godaken says: or no?
(20:07:45) Herleva says: i don`t believe that you have a slash 60 sword ;)
(20:08:35) Godaken says: o please i need something
(20:08:35) Herleva says: where is your /60 sword?
(20:08:55) Godaken says: o please i need something
(20:08:59) Godaken says: ;)
(20:09:02) Herleva says: ;)
(20:09:10) Godaken says: pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
(20:09:17) Herleva says: what you need first is armor

*to her surprise Herleva changes to a kindly mood and gives a
pair /3.6 short swords to the (apparently new) player*

(20:09:43) Herleva says: but i have a sword for you
(20:09:48) Godaken says: or weapons or anything to start
(20:09:49) Herleva says: take this one
(20:10:01) Godaken says: o thankssssssssss
(20:10:22) Godaken says: o thankssssssssss
(20:10:24) Godaken says: o thankssssssssss
(20:10:24) Godaken says: o thankssssssssss
(20:10:24) Godaken says: o thankssssssssss
(20:10:25) Godaken says: o thankssssssssss
(20:10:26) Herleva says: these are good swords
(20:10:33) Herleva says: take care of them

*male Ynnwn disappears without a single word (logged out)*

*a Klyros appears at the Kran where Herleva is still trying her luck*

(20:23:44) Asiersoon says: hi
(20:23:49) Herleva says: hello
(20:24:32) Asiersoon says: can you lend me any sword o axe good enough to kill a gldiator?
(20:24:48) Herleva says: i think you have to train first
(20:24:55) Asiersoon says: plisssssssssssss
(20:24:56) Herleva says: this glad here is tough
(20:25:00) Asiersoon says: anything
(20:25:09) Asiersoon says: mine are 2,4 slash
(20:26:01) Herleva says: [i don`t let you fool me my friend]
(20:26:25) Herleva says: [i had this swords spare but i will not give you anymore]
(20:26:49) Asiersoon says: you havent give me anything yet

*Klyros disappears after that (logged out)*

Minutes later i saw the Ynnwn asking another player for weapons again.

Here is what i think about that.
The name "Asiersoon" sounds suspicious like "I see you soon".

Is that a trick to get some money and weapons?
...changing the chars and ask the people that are in a giving mood more times?
It`s a lousy trick and leads to a situation where players don`t give weapons or money to new players.

Did that happen only to me or have you similar experiences?

A simple poke at a willing GM can see if iit's the same account with multiple characters doing this.  As for me, no.  But I should mention my charcter is a grump who doesn't give swat to anyone, including thier name.  Anything given is earned through long standing trust, which isn't easy to get.

simple rule to deal with beggars..

if they come up and ask you for something give them nothing..

if they dont ask but genuinely seem nice then give them something.

that helps weed out the fakers...

but then again the amount of effort you would have to go through to create then log in with different characters..then hide the sword somewhere and then log in with another character transfer the sword or money... seems a little too much effort to me

If you're going to give round giving things out, i dont see where you can complain... True its not too polite of this guy taking advantage, but its not too hard to just say no.

Well, there shouldnt be a willingness about it, its the duty of a GM to help players out. Though it hardly needs one of us to tell you not to give items to players thats your choice. Though that said, you Satayne, and others know where to find us.
<Rux> i wish i could say that narrows it down, but the internet is one freaky place

Please don't forget about petitions. We can't be around 24/7 right now, but that doesn't mean that you can't leave messages for us in-game.

The only thing abused was your generosity, and that isn't something anyone can fix for you... Be careful who you help - and make sure that they are worthy of help in the first place. Too many times I see people giving out items to people without having them do anything, or learn anything, etc. You're not doing them as big of a favor as you can be.

well bites that you got you first begging
but it happens in game and that could be *dare I say*
their rp style but I agree with  Alphi... this in anycase will get them
to move on in some way... not your problem if they actually stay
in ps and work for it or move to another game to beg  X-/
also to some extent it does add realism to ps
when I go down town their are beggers there  X-/ they
dont ask for weapons  ;D but other things

as for the
A simple poke at a willing GM can see if iit's the same account with multiple characters doing this.

serious no no in my opinion and partly even offends me  :-\
I know it was just this time or whatever but still
in my opinion under no circumstances should any gm be giving out
this kind of information  I would hope this is not a
reoccuring thing  >:( gms have their accounts private and players
should get that same respect[/color]

I agree with Dylia.. A dev or GM should look at it but giving out information like that while the person in question didn't even do anything against the rules shouldn't be policy.

As i said, i was surprised by myself to give weapons to a beggar.
I mentioned that behaviour in another thread before.

Quote

Don`t talk to pc`s in the same manner as to npc`s. \"give me a quest!\" may work at Harnquist...but \"give me money!\" or \"give me daggers!\" is annoying and few people will help you then.

When you ask me for money or weapons i will ask you if you are a beggar.
It`s ok to become a beggar in PS, but then you don`t need weapons or money [since you don`t need food Wink], live your life as a marauder...

btw, i don`t care about these weapons and i give stuff or money away when it is dispensable for me.
As i started i was happy that people helped me with weapons and money, i didn`t beg for it!
These guy and other professional beggars make use of the generosity of some more experienced players with good weapons to give away.
And they do that not in character!
That is what me bothers. As i said before, play a beggar, no problem!
And that some beggars in real life are greedy is no secret, so i could deal with it ingame.
But to work with multiple accounts spoils the fun, as i can never be sure if i gave stuff to the same person or a different.
When more people imitate this behaviour the decent new players will be the losers.
Yes, i want these people to be stopped.

Greetings, Herleva

Then naming and shaming on the forums isn't the way to go about this. As others have said tell a GM, either using /tell or make a petition.

Just have to say this.. I'm afraid "Godaken" is "Good day again". :)

I didn't even know there were people giving out weapons and such for free to beggars... Well it doesn't matter at this stage of the game where you put those weapons though. The most annoying part in this is.. What are these people doing here? I don't see any way of satisfaction they could get from this.. For at least that one surely wasn't roleplaying a beggar. Although, some people get their satisfaction from shovels or curtains or.. I don't know. The way these people should be dealed with has been discussed several times and I think one of the best solutions is a clever tutorial which would hopefully decrease their amount. Some quest or something which would test their roleplaying skills and such. I think at least banning isn't very effective.. They'll always find a way back.

I think the point wasn't to give out the names on multiple accounts, or even to return a "yes" or "no" answer. You can simply state that you believe someone with so-and-so account name to be taking advantage of other players - in a petition - and leave it at that.  If a GM looks into it, and this is what I would do were I in that situation, I wouldn't even respond with an indication of or if any action had been taken against an individual.  This is IMHO a better way to handle it. More professional, more to the point, and it greatly reduces the chances of players becoming "vigilantes" and staging their own smear/PK campaigns against players who they think wronged them.

On games such as Final Fantasy 11, GM's do this sort of thing to great effect. They even have an in-realm jail to punish repeat/exceedingly malignant offenders.  It's (the last time I checked) like a square box room that your character will all of a sudden log into when you come in game. You have no escape, no hope of cajoling or persuading your way out. Your only hope is to wait out the sentence. Surely this sort of thing can be instituted for those who take "raiding" to a higher level.

Maybe we can implement something of that nature as time goes on and with input in another thread, preferably destined for the "Wish List."

Just my two cents.

In-game jails have been suggested numerous times before :} Please no more.

For ALL complaints regarding players or GMs, it is not appropriate to post on this forum.

Send petitions about behavior problems, or use the /report function if the problem is in the chat.
