[Guild] Vaal Guard - Community of Vaalnor
« on: May 04, 2006, 03:48:51 pm »
Background information: The Vaal Guard is an essential part of the Community of Vaalnor, under the direct command of Tyrnal Relhorn and supervised by the Vaalnor Council. At the moment all Vaal Guards are members of the in-game Community of Vaalnor guild and use their forums. In the future we are considering of separating the Vaal Guard and the other parts of the Community of Vaalnor, solely in-game. It will still remain one community, build up out of several in-game guilds. Hence the separate thread.

It has been decided by the council members on their last meeting, that the Vaal Guard project will be expanding.

The people of Akkaio have responded rather positively to our presence and our work is being appreciated all the more recently. However we don't have the resources or manpower to do everything we can to secure the safety of the Ojavedan citizens and visitors. This is why the community hopes to expand and fill the ranks of the Vaal Guard.

The unit will be led by the Captain namely myself, Tyrnal Relhorn. We are in charge of hiring and training the new recruits. When there are enough guards an additional hierarchy might come in effect, to assure the efficiency and functionality of the Vaal Guard. Should you be interested in joining, please contact one me or any of the Vaalnor Council members but be aware that recruits will be tested and drilled before being admitted.

As a member of the guard it is our duty to protect, in the first instance, the members of the Community of Vaalnor but also the citizens and visitors of the city we currently reside in, Ojaveda. We have been given the temporary position of Akkaio's guards by Ojaveda's current Vigesimi. This gives us the power to act as a police force and take measures against any who endanger the wellbeing of others. However to do this we are obliged to act honorably and just.

A Vaal Guard member must remain polite at all times and serve the people, not oppress them. We must be a flawless example of proper conduct and good manners, watching over the masses without taking away any of their freedom.

He or she is also required to have or recieve advanced combat training and make sure that their skills are always kept at a high level. Therefor they will spend a lot of the time they are not on duty training, either with the other Vaal Guard members or on their own. We are expected to hold our ground against potent enemies.
An on-duty Vaal Guard can be recognized by the metal shield they carry, inscribed with the Vaalnor emblem.

Any housing, equipment and training is provided by Vaalnor as long as you are a member. If you leave you will have to return the equipment or pay for it.

Our duties entail:

-Standing on duty infront of the gates: Where we will see over the wellbeing of any who chose to travel outside the city's vicinity. Rogues frequently prey on the weaker travellers. They are not allowed to rob or kill in our presence. We will also keep an eye on who or what enters the city of Ojaveda.
-Patrolling the City: We will walk around the city to keep peace on the roads and public buildings, like the Tavern, the smithy and the warehouses.

Offences against the Law we uphold:
-Harassement: Any who harass another citizen, either verbally or physically will be forced to recompensate their victim for the damage done and be fined an additional monetary penalty.
-Thievery: Who claims possesion of property which isn't rightly theirs will have to answer to us. Perpetrators will have to return the goods and pay a fine, depending on the gravity of the offence.
-Kidnapping: Nobody is allowed to hold another prisoner against their will, nor by magic or force. Those who imprison their peers will become imprisoned themselves and must pay a sum of money to the victim and their family.
-Manslaughter: No man, woman or beast will raise their hand against another in our presence, with the exception of self defence. Those who do not live up to this law will either live behind bars or be banned from the city.

Refusing to co-operate with a Guard officer and resisting arrest will be punished by force. Anyone who raises their hand against a member of the Vaal Guard can be arrested and killed on sight.

The members of the Vaal Guard are all subjected to these rules themselves and even the slightest misstep will be punished by expulsion from our unit and possibly death.

Should there be any complaints against an officer of the guard, please direct these to the Captain, Tyrnal or directly to the Vigesimi or the Vaalnor Council members. They will be investigated immediately and during the time of the investigation the accused member will be relieved from their duties. False accusations will have consequences however.

P.S.: The offences named above are purely in an RP setting and Vaal Guards will be trained in proper RP behavior. The Vaal Guard should not be confused with GM's since we only uphold the law IC, OOC problems have nothing to do with us. Vaal Guard members will be taught how to arrest or fight someone under RP conditions, explain themselves through the use of /tells and how to avoid frustrations and incidents with non-RPers and evil/criminal RPers alike. It is also prefered (required for ranks beyond private) to register at our forums and drop by the IRC channel from time to time. In the future we might organise meetings for members.

Our current irc room also allows the ability to spawn off a seperate room for meetings to keep things seperate.  Simply enter our irc room.  I'm not sure how to do it except in bitchx but I'll test the other clients later.  anyhoo here is how I do it.

/join #Vaalguard
/mode #vaalguard +o My_User_Name

then you have a chat which you have full operator control over.  Afterwards, pop into main #URPS (Vaalnor Chat) and tell people to join the new room.

Thanks Ind, that'll definitely be helpful. I'm hoping to discuss this more in-depth in our next guild meeting though but I was tired of sitting around doing nothing :P

Note: the following message was posted by Archon.  Apparantly he didn't know I was still logged in on my laptop when he borrowed it. :D

Glad to see you expanding the Vaal Guard more-so. If founding money is needed let me know, the Vaalnor Shop has plenty of funds to provide the Community's expansion.

Also, if you need any help with anything let me know. I'd like to become a member of the Vaal Guard. You can do a test run with me if you like. (Even though you know the extent of my training from joining you in protecting the shop :P)

Speaking of shop, not to forget, a new duty to the Vaal Guard is standing guard right outside the shop when a merchant is on the clock. When the merchant is no longer around, standing guard outside the shop is no longer required.

As of now Vaal Guard is a seperate guild in-game, we are still a part of the community of Vaalnor but that community has been split up in several divisions.

This gives us several advantages, the first being the most obvious .. our own name making us more recognizable as guards towards the public. Secondly we now have our own hierarchy and ranks, which are the following:

  • Recruits: These are the members who are invited to join the Vaal Guard but still need to be tested for their skills and chose a specialisation within the Guard units. They cannot yet perform as Vaal Guards without the supervision of an experienced member.
  • Grunts: The grunts are those members whose combat skill and behaviour have been tested and approved of but still need to complete their drill training before being assigned to an official position. They are allowed to patrol the streets and combat rogues and the likes but cannot yet arrest offenders.
  • Guard Unit: The main Vaalguard force will be located in this unit, most of the guard with some decent combat experience who has proven their loyalty and honorable intentions are stationed here. These are the men who keep our streets safe and jump infront of that rogue to save harmless townspeople or arrest fellons.
  • Support Unit: These men and women are much like their peers of the Guard Unit but they will rarely be seen engaging in close combat, instead they focus their efforts on supporting the Guards with ranged attacks and healing.
  • Guard Sargeant: These are the elite Guard unit members who have distinguished themselves in combat and diplomatic behavior, as well as having shown excellent leadership qualities. They lead their own unit of Guard officers and are also responcible for drilling and training Grunts.
  • Support Sargeant: These men and women have also distinguished themselves exactly like their Guard counterparts and have been put in charge over several Support officers.
  • Field Healer: The Field Healer is a unique type of Support Officer, this healer/mage will concentrate all their efforts on tending to the wounded. They are responcible for supplies and potion stock of our troops and will co-ordinate our healers in large scale operations by setting up a field hospital.
  • Cloaks: This is generally a temporary position for undercover Guards. They will be disguised as civilians and report to the Captain himself about outside and inside activity. These men and women evaluate the rest of the Vaal Guard as well as the situation in Ojaveda without directly interfering.
  • Captain: The position taken by Tyrnal Relhorn, leader of the Vaal Guard and servant of Vaalnor. He reports to the Council of Vaalnor and the Vigesimi of Ojaveda.

Vaal Guard is becoming a semi-military guild in which discipline, teamwork and social skills are probably even more important than your combat abilities. New recruits are extensively tested and drilled (all in RP fun of course) and even our veteran members will constantly be retrained and kept sharp in the line of duty. We intend to hold several group training sessions in combat tactics, arresting criminals and good behaviour.

Our division is also supported by a large community of merchants, miners, hunters and crafters who will supply us with equipment and funding as well as request our assistance in martial and lawful matters.

Our guild will work with the guild point system for rewarding those who complete their exercises and training well and distinguish themselves as Guards by solving conflicts or saving lives. Those points can be traded for equipment, trias for training or used to raise in the Vaal Guard ranks.

Vaal Guard is still looking for more members to keep law and order in Ojaveda. At the moment we are quite understaffed to handle all the criminal activity there so join us now and rise quickly through the ranks.

* Archon finishes reading up on the last (and extremely large) post.

Excellent. I will check to see if anyone would like to join the community's military. Although I won't be of use to invite them or test them as of now, but I will go over with them what is going on and to contact you, I'll give you names of promising persons.

Zan, you could give bew recruits a quest to gather a # of a certain item that can be attained by killing a monster.

EX. 10 rat eyes, 10 tefu teeth, 10 egg sacs. (this seems a bit to easy but you could always raise the #)

after they do that they could become a grunt.

@Archon:
Excellent job, I could definitely use the help of some recruiters.

@Hellios:
I have a ton of 'quests' ready for new recruits, most will not be that simplistic though .. my quests are going to be a bit more advanced and interactive. They'll also be adjusted to every new recruit's character and constantly monitored.

Aside from that we still have a quest system lying dorment in the Community of Vaalnor with some actual Vaal Guard quests in there. So way ahead of you, partner ;)

I will try to be a little more active but mostly on sundays. Torn is consuming a large amount of my time right now. I have 3k tria I can donate if it will help the community any.

Not to worry :) The community is doing great. The shop has almost 400,000 trias at the moment for the community. understandable that Torn is taking a lot of your time, it is with mine too, hehe.

hmm yeah thats my point killing trepors is already quite a challenge for someone who is just new. At sword 7 you wont kill one so just the fact he can kill a trepor is some proof to his talents ;)

Killing monsters is one test recruits need to undergo to prove their ability to fight. If you can only kill rats or clackers, you're better off becoming a vermin exterminator instead of a Vaal Guard. Though you could still apply for the healer or support unit or simply train your skills a bit until you are better able to handle yourself.

Combat skills aren't the only requirements for our recruits though, they need to be honorable, know their duties and will be tested on interaction with others.
