Card Game
« on: May 15, 2006, 01:08:17 am »
G'day all! I'm planning on creating a card game, A collectible one. I'm looking for people willing to make me a couple of nice pictures, and will be kind enough to throw in a couple of my own later on. Your pictures will be modified and put on the cards. Each card will be different and used in this card-game. More about this card game will follow, and the rule book will soon(tm) be available for everybody. I'm really looking for help, since I have a severe lack of artists in amongst my friends. Any questions? I'll be more then happy to answer, and please.... pretty please... Help me out here.  \\o//

Sounds good. =D

I can't make pictures for crap, but here are a few requests:

Mitaki - Warrior fighting for peace

Xidus - Follower of Vodul who believes in a new world to get rid of sinners

Xidus (Good) - Xidus' self after realizing his intentions were true evil, and not good like he thought.

As long as it is used for PlaneShift and not another completely unrelated project, it's perfectly fine :}

I would so love to help out.. Hm. We'll see if I find any time. Good luck with this!

This makes me want to make a standard card game, similar to poker, or go fish.

No clue why, but then I remember my lack of photoshop skills.

This Card game is still in an early stage, and these rough sketches give an idea of what it can become. Obviously, these drawings still need a lot of editing before they are put on the cards. But... as promised, some of my very own Art work. More, complete versions will follow in the near (tm) future.

This one here is for the rule-book, it shows a dwarven hand flipping a coin. The coin flipping is used to "move" cards. Yes, cards can move. Whenever two cards encounter, a fight occurs.

http://sonicsociety.com/Illori/upload/Cardgame/hauntedtree.jpg
http://sonicsociety.com/Illori/upload/Cardgame/wingsteur.jpg

These are some of the monsters created, two of the water element, and the haunted tree, is of the earth element. The elements will be, Fire, Water, Earth, Wind and soul. Each element has an oposit element, exept for soul, which has no weaknesses at all.

More will follow soon.

And for those interested, Instead of a normal table, this game uses a 3-d playing board, created by me and some friends. on this board, the card coins are moved, 'till an encounter occurs. A game master, overviewing the game, will let monster spawn occasionally, to make it more interesting.

Sounds interesting, but to help you we need to know what kind of world and atmosphere you wish for this game. For any help you still can count on me.

I didn't ge it  ??? So you mean that when you flip the coin the card moves and the card represents a monster on the 3d board. If the monster meets another monster, there is a fight. Correct me please!

nice idea, i will help if i get enough time.

would the 3d board represent the different levels of ylikiam (srry aboat the spelling ;)) and you can only play certain monsters on certain levels ::|
hang on though, this game is sounding more and more complicated by the minute ???

@arangol
i preaume so, though perhaps different monsters have different strength, defense, etc :)

edit:is this what you were thinking of proglin when you said game card, or at least something like this (this isn't very good- it took me 2 minutes - the white is where an image of a monster goes):

Let me explain some of the rules and card types:

Card Types:

Characters:
The characters are the fighters, mages, merchants and everyone else. Each player has several characters in his deck, together, these characters will form the players army. Each character has a Strength and a defence, an name, a descreption and some have a special skill. Also, they will have speed, which will be explained in a later stage.

Equipment:
These type of cards represent the equipment, they can be placed untop of a card to make him stronger, or an apponent's card, weaker. These can also add a little something to the characters abbilities.

Action:
These cards allow you to have certain advantages for a short period of time. like, extra speed for one turn, extra strength and so forth. Also, they can do annoying things to your opponent

Intervention:
These will be used to counter-react to some action cards, or player moves.

Mastercards:
These cards will be extremely powerfull, and do some massive damage. They are expansive and difficult to play. (Think meteors, tidal waves and whatnot)

(This is a simple paint version of what a Card will look like, I'm open to suggestions obviously  :D )

A players Turn

Draw 1 card:
In a turn, a player can draw 1 card at the start of every turn.

Play Character or Equip
In this phase, a player can either play a character, or a piece of equipment. Some cards may allow a player to do more in this phase.

Movement
Every single character, has a certain speed. Once a character is played, a coin is placed untop of it. Prooving it was paid. The coin has the same colour as one that is placed on the 3-D Board. This coin, represents the character. The player throws a 4-sided dice, and adds the characters speed. This is the ammount of "flips" or rather, Paces, a character can take this turn. Every player is allowed to move up to 3 different characters.

Action phase:
In this phase, a player can choose to attack the other player, using his character cards. This can only be done if the two "coins" Are close enough to attack. Also, an action card can be played, giving certain advantages for you, or disadvantages for your opponent.

Hand check
The player now Draws, or discards cards in his hand, to get to a number of 5 cards.

Some game features

Gold
Gold can be found or earned by destroying a monster, character or doing a quest. Gold is used to Buy Equip, or characters. The Game master, will award gold, place monsters and give quests.

Elements
There are 5 elements in this game. Namely; Water, Fire, Earth, Wind and soul. Each element has a strong point, and a weak point.

As for the 3-D board...
The board on the pictures is just a trial board, and hasen't got anything to do with Planeshift. On a later stage, The levels of the stalactite will be created. Not sure to do s in 2-D or 3-D yet.

The 3d board reminds me of Wharhammer, but with cards, it's very interesting and the rules seems easy to assimilate. Instead of 3d you can also use a 2d plan, slowing movement with a malus (-1 ? on the 4sided ? ) when the chart meet a hill (which will be draw ).

Hmmm, card game eh? sounds cool. Also reminds me of the guy behind the barrels in Hydalla. Maybe he is the Gambling man.

But how do you plan to assimilate cards moving on a board. Squares that they can move via?

As explained in the previous post my friend, Every card has a coin, indicating Where this character, monster or everything else is one the board. The cards are placed in front of the player, the coins are on the 3-D board. The cards never move, they are just to assign stats and abbilities to every coin controled by the players.

It was said like this:
Quote

Every single character, has a certain speed. Once a character is played, a coin is placed untop of it. Prooving it was paid. The coin has the same colour as one that is placed on the 3-D Board. The first version of a test-card at the side. This is the general idea. The firs, real PS-related Equipment card. More will be available soon. Feed-back is obviously welcome.

Hmmm, I dont know if you already know, but you should take a look at the MTG Editor. This tool might help you a lot with your idea.

Zanzibar and I have been playing around with that editor and got quite some nice outcome as shown in This Thread
