Semi-Solution for hydlaa furnace
« on: May 20, 2006, 10:54:26 am »
Hello, I have noticed people who apparently know either very little about PS or like to make things difficult for players keep putting trias in the furnace and leave various ores or potions in there too. Also the stock caster seems to have potions in there as well. Anyways while I don't have a permanent solution to this problem or even a very good one i have however found a way to get rid of the ores in the furnace. If you put a melted ore ontop of SOMEONE ELSES melted ore it allows you to stack and then after a while they BOTH turn to dust and you take the dust out of the furnace and that slot will then be free. The only down side to it is that you have to waste 1 ore to do it. To a regular player using several to free slots is costly in time and effort of mining but Game Masters on the other hand have the ability to create objects of their choosing by a mere command or through the admin manager GUI. So if a Game Master ever wants to free the furnace of various bugged ores some person left in there he can simply make 5 or 10 or however many ores instantly and free them for all players. This is not a great way of doing this but it is a way nonetheless. Thank you and have fun.  :)

Heya Malfini, thanks for making the post :]

A question though - don't ores turn to dust on their own if left for too long, that can be removed? And if not, what is it that does turn to dust?
Judge: Are you trying to show contempt for this court, Mr Smith?
Smith: No, My Lord. I am attempting to conceal it.

I have seen Melted ores and iron Ingots and other ore in there for a very very long time (you can make an educated guess when it identifies the person who made it and they are not around for at least 30 minutes etc..). I do not know what causes some ore to not turn to dust on its own. But i do know for a fact some do not turn to dust. Those ores are the ones that can removed through the bug i posted. Sorry i could not be more helpful.

*EDIT*

I just now checked and currently there are trias and hexas and an iron ingot and two molten ores. The iron ingot is from a player named Galmer who isnt even online and nowhere to be found and the ores are skreit's who also is not online and nowhere to be found. They have been in there for an hour AT LEAST. I do not know why they aren't melting but they just aren't. Sometimes the furnace is full of even more ore and at those times i stacked ores ontop of other peoples bugged ores to free them. I can't do that anymore though cause my metallurgy level is now 6 and the furnace won't allow me to melt anymore. It will only let me cast sadly enough. I hope I have cleared this up for you more :). Thank you and Take care.

*EDIT*

Okay i just got rid of an iron ingot and a molten iron someone left in the furnace.

Hei boss! :D

Well, the ores, as far as I know, only turn into pile of dust if in the beguinning there was the message "you don't know what you are doing with this". So there is only two options:

1 - you have "nothing in mind" so it gets into a pile of dust
2 - you have mettalurgy over 5, which means you cannot melt iron anymore and your ore will be transformed into a pile of dust

At leats these are the only 2 options I know

:)

Hope it helps

P.S.: Sorry for the spelling mistakes... I am too groggy because of the stupid leopard dots...  :sweatdrop:

Spotting you!

I have to correct you in this mather Malfini.
You're information is not correct in this mather.
There is no Game Master who can spawn items.

We have levels among the Game Masters too, like the players.
Every level within the group of the Game Masters gives us the commands for that level only.
The highest Game Master we have is GM5 and the required level for spawning items is cleared for GM6.
So only certain Developers can spawn items ingame and they are working on a solutions to fix this problem.
Game Masters are also unable to remove items from the Furnace, Forge, Quench Tank, Stock Casting and the Smith Table, like all players.
If i was capable of removing these items, then they were already gone.
Greetings,

Tarel Barilele

I was aware "Game Master" is a guild in PlaneShift and that they have different levels that have different permissions "/who Game" (and a quick view of source code). But i was not aware that the Game Master guild was configured so that only developers can have the level necessary to spawn items. Now i am though thank you. I also knew though that Game Masters couldn't just remove the stuff in the furnace because Bakuun told me so in the game. I just merely thought that at least some could create items and do it the way i described above. Apparently they cannot though. Thank your for elaborating more on what the non-developer Game Masters can and cannot do. Everyday we learn something new. :)

there is currently a problem with this method of "cleaning out" the furnace
a player has filled it entirely with their molten iron ores and then logged off, he has not been on in days to collect these things as far as I know
this is a major problem because it means no one can use the furnace until the ores are removed...
The players name is Knuirli
I can only ask him that if he sees this to please take care of the problem, or could someone else please come up with a solution?  I have no clue what to do here, nothing can get put down and nothing can get picked up, which means no one can use the furnace...

Thanks!

There's been some work on this, and things should be better after the next release.

About the GM levels thing:  To clarify, the guild levels are just for show.  We just have a GM guild so they're all easily recognizable and can communicate easily via guild chat.  There is a security verification system built into the server that allows/disallows features based on account clearance.  The current list is on the CVS at src/server/database/mysql/command_access.sql  There is no in-game command to put/remove items into/from public containers.  (The commands listed in that list for taking/giving items to players aren't on Laanx yet, by the way.)
