Is there an automap feature in the game? If not, is one planned?

Can we download any preprinted maps so we can tell where we are and where we should be going? This would be VERY helpful.

As I know there is no automap feature in planning but a cartography skill.
And there are no official maps for download but some exist... but anyway, you can ask everyone ingame for help, the community is very nice!

The plan is to eventually have a cartography skill, which would allow characters to create maps.  For now, however, the world isn't big enough to need maps yet.  Here's all you need:

             [Sewers]  [Dungeon]
                      |     |
[East Hydlaa]--[Hydlaa]---[Forest]-----[Oja Road]-----[Akkaio]
       |                  |             |                  |
 [Library]       [Arena]   [Magic Shop]    [Ruins]
                                                                                           [Death Realm]

(no directionality and not to scale)                                                                                                 [NPC room]

It's a very good map that DaveG made and it reveals one of the secrets of Yliakum -- why there are no gladiators or rogues or rats in the Death Realm and where do they go when they die  :D

I love your map DaveG, for month i lose my way exploring Yliakum.
That has an end now, i suggest everybody downloading, enlarging, printing and pinning it on the wall...as i did already.

Thank you for your effort, DaveG

Btw, that is just an expansion of what started in another thread.

The point I'm trying to make here, is that the world is currently very linear and simple.  Go explore, and ask someone in-game if you need directions.  My dinky little map is the most that's going to be posted here.  (all it really tells you is what exists, which you could find out already from half the other posts here)

What we really need are just some simple signposts placed around the world.

And the following map is for those, who have problems with finding their way to Yliakum and (first of all) back:

 [Real World]--------->[Podium]-------->[put DaveG's map here]
        ^                  |                    |
        |                  v                    v
        +<-----------------+<-------------------+
(directionality indicated, scalable)

It took me quite long to draw it. ;)

The average player won't be able to visit that one, anyway...

Yeah, it just sits there as an unreachable pedestal to taunt the players.  ;)

You can goto it if you build your own server, though.

i wonder if cartography is going to be complicated or not? probably just walking around with quill,  ink and map paper in your bag and selecting /draw map will do it, and then walking around to all the places will set a spine to the map, the initial roads. then once that happened, 10 minutes or so filling it in with locations, colours and stuff. perhaps the higher the level, the more locations and option you get? for example:
level 1 cartography: draw map.
level 3 cartograpy: draw map, locations.
level 9 cartography: draw map, locations, terrain types, Points of interest, npc locations, general info about the area.

perhaps at level 1 the map is quite crude, basic. at level 9 or whatever, the map is intricate, the writing perfect and the areas more exact to the map.

sorry for that long post, but i was just suggesting.

I like that idea. But once at the higher levels adventurers would pretty much already memorized the realm and wouldn't need a map. XD
