Follow the way of the Dark Crystal, it will lead you to your destination.
You would not be the first who got damned to Death Realm forever, yet there is a citizen where the mortals roam.
The more easy way is to ask ingame or just follow other players. :D

I wish you luck and a good journey,

Greetings

Please look around, particularly at the Gameplay FAQ :} It can have quite a few answers for your current and future questions.

12. I can't find the exit from the Death Realm!
No one can help you on the forums - so your best bet is to ask for aid from your fellow fallen. If they know of the exit, they will help you - and there is no shame at asking for help in a social game. You can always type '/die' to be taken back to the beginning if you get thoroughly lost, or stuck.
Judge: Are you trying to show contempt for this court, Mr Smith?
Smith: No, My Lord. I am attempting to conceal it.

I think that the most important thing here is for a new player to understand that the game is designed to teach you three things very early on.
1) The cities for some reason don't have maps signs or directions. This is explained by some as Role Playing. I understand this isn't a modern setting but very few towns that I know of require you to run around all over the place to find key areas. However maybe the merchants don't want to be bothered by custmers. If so Then I guess the whole thing makes sense.
2) you will die jumping from 10 feet in the air, then...
3) it will be very hard for you to find your way out of the death realm by yourself.
After about an hour into the game, you will have learned these and then you can learn the next most important thing. If something seems strange and not working right, look on the forums for known bugs. You will most likely find that your not doing something wrong, the game is.
Good luck.

LOL.. I wish I'd seen this post last night.... I started a character last night and entered the world of planeshift for the very first time.... and I died trying to kill a beatle that I found.   I couldn't hit it, for some reason even standing right on top of it it kept saying I was too far away.   Perhaps I have to aquire a weapon first.... but at any rate I died and ended up in the underworld.    I never did figure out how to get out before logging off for the night.     I did manage to discover all of these points though in the time I played...

Mates, remember that this is still in ALPHA and there are loads and loads to be fixed, those who have patience and understand the situation sticks on and those who maybe are a bit impatient either leave for good or return at a later date.

Oh, I understand.. my post wasn't a complaint about the quality of the game and I hope you didn't read it as such :)    I'm actually fairly impressed that it looks as good as it does considering the complexities involved with the creation of a 3D MMO and the fact that this is an open source project with no real "funding", at least no funding in the traditional sense that the commercial MMO's on the market have.

I was merely laughing at the fact that what I got out of my first session playing was basically the 3 things that the above poster stated.    Had I read the forums before playing I could've started with a one play session head start.

Maybe later tonight I can figure out how to get out of the death realm... :)
