Newbie island??
« on: January 18, 2003, 09:34:43 pm »
I think newbie island would be a good idea for all newbies who will come to planeshift.
On this newbie island thay will learn how to make things like blacksmithing, cut trees, swim yeah all things you need to learn. anyway i think this would be god cuz newbies are so annoying  :))

I don\'t mean to sound offensive or anything, but for some reason that sounds like something a newbie would suggest.

Personally, I\'d prefer if it was made that there was an offline tutorial to get them started rather than make some island in game for them to be let loose on.

the best way to get in a MMORPG is to participate in the game right from the start...
if you go to a n00b island first you will feel noobish and it will be less fun... and what benefits would there be?

and erhm.. i thought everybody wanted to have everything very realistic... do you get on a baby island when you get born before you can go to your home?
i dun think so... (sorry can\'t remember it anymore :P )

but i agree on making some area\'s that are easier then others, so n00b\'s (yeah i luv that word :) ) kan train easily

Yeah thats a great idea if u relly are  n00b i can have a offline program to learn i think thats a good idea =) and ofcurse there will be easyer areas for n00bs to train on i think the monsters in this world will be that hard that u cannot take em by your own (ok some monsters)
but i relly like to run with other people and fight monsters.

I must agree with alcapalis.  There are no newbie islands in life, and therefore there shouldn\'t be in ps.  Of course this is but a game, but it is also suppose to be very realistic (I think).

im with link on this one, those who have played xenimus (which no-one probably has) knows that what link is saying about annoying newbies is right heh. When you are a mid to high level you cant enter any town without being chased by 5 newbies who think its their godgiven right to be powerleveled, geared up and shrined (taking then to stones that enhance their stats) by the first person they see. This way you\'ll filter out the ones that cant make it on their own =P

sigh...

Number one, were in caves, no islands I dont think are planned? I might be wrong.

Your a newbie and shouldnt suggest that Idea cause that sucks :)

Why do people insist on having tutorials. When you start the game everyones goin to be in the same boat. Just play. If you die, too bad there isnt looting so hey at least you know some guy isnt going to get your stuff.

Just dont worry about not knowing what to do. Its more fun finding out on your own then having some NPC tell you how to do things.

yep. half the fun is figuring things out yourself.

I play alot of console RPG\'s. sometimes one of my friends likes to come over and try em out. I\'m ok with that, but whats really annoying is that she always asks me how to do things or why she cant do something. She acts like im some all knowing wisdom. If im in a good mood ill answer her question. But if I get sick of her (usually this is the case :P) I tell her, \"I had to figure it out myself and your gonna do the same.\" Anyway the point is, as far as tutorials go, I would only go as far as to give basic info about combat and spells and controls and such. Past that they should figure it out themselves.

I think it sounds like a pretty good idea.  I hate not knowing what to do as soon as I get into a game.  I think that maybe we should all get like hooked up with someone who could show us around, or something.  I don\'t know, just suggesting, because I don\'t know how you could actually do that, there\'s probably to many newbies anyway.  Oh well.

Baah, of course the game is fantasy.  But it does have realistic traits to it, such as you can\'t get your head chopped off and still live, probably not anyways.  How bout we just stick everyone in the world and let them run around until they figure things out.  It wouldn\'t really bother me that much, people will learn what things will get you killed quick enough.

Am thinking, why not include some quests or something that would teach the noobs ( including me ) how things work. Kinda like in Neverwinter Nights where there are some NPCs who teach you how to work your console, change views, equip, cast spells, etc.

And there would be rewards at the end of each quest like maybe a better armor or weapon than the one you start out with. This way they\'ll be more enticed to do the quests and learn there than bother other weary adventurers  :)

Eh, that might work.  I\'m not too sure about teaching how the console works though, that\'s kind of what the game manual is for.

Is anyone else remembering that little bit at the beginning of runescape? *shudders*

Ohhhhh!!! The new aelya is hott!!!

And the only thing I remember about the beggining of Runescape was a NPC which told you stupid things like where you were and you didn\'t HAVE to talk to him.
