Abusing the DR
« on: June 18, 2006, 10:27:18 pm »
I don’t know about you but I have heard this many times;
” I’ll be right back I have to go to the Death Realm to sell my stuff”
The Death Realm is where you go when you are killed; it shouldn’t be a shortcut to sell stuff. I don’t know if the people who do this don’t know where the shops are that buy there loot, or they are just too lazy to go to the proper shop.
I think that if you kill your self it should be harder to get out of the DR. This way it will stop people from using it as a shortcut. If you are killed, it is fine the way it is (for now).

Later on, the DR will become much bigger, much more confusing, and much, much more dangerous. As of now, the DR is kinda small, a.. inconvinience. Certainly it'll get big enough to discourage suicide.
Crazy am I. Not responsable for crazyness that ensues.

I hope for them to make it a place for morepowerful people to go for more challenge, and for the less powerful to cautiously make their way through.

Then the death guardian shouldn't buy stuff or there should me merchants who buy stuff. I can't find anyone who buys animal parts (if there is anyone please correct me) so untill there is one people will kill themselves. They probably aren't good RP'ers anyway.

I feel pretty stupid saying "I killed him" just to have the said character return 8 minutes later so I tend to think of the Death realm to be more like a place one is banished to when they are hurt. The penalty of course is the time it takes to run out. Death guardian is a pretty handy guy to have around, especially if one is full of Ulbernaut claws and hides and has just been smacked down by daddy ulber. So, may I suggest you think of it as a place of recuperation for the time being, lets remember those magic words...

There are two merchants outside of the DR who buy animal parts.

Yes, and for a while, initially, one of those was a pretty safe place for new players in Hydlaa and in Ojaveda, to take their first few full inventories-worth of hides AND animal parts to sell. Not now, as there are two powerful neighbours there who both get curious when visitors arrive...

...and that nosey neighbourliness will put a new player straight down to DR to say hi to the Death Guardian.

- running PlaneShift Mac OS X Tiger (10.4.11) Client, on an Apple iMac G5 2GHz PowerPC processor, 2GB DDR SDRAM, an ATI Radeon 9600 graphics card with 128MB VRAM, a 20-inch active-matrix LCD widescreen display, and a 250GB Serial ATA hard drive... so what's your excuse, huh?

The Bandit isn't so bad... but that Rogue (like his brethen) likes to chase after anyone who gets too close...and he is VERY tough (40+ damage/hit with that sword of his)

OK I understand that the shops that buy hides and animal parts aren’t convenient, but I think they are set up well. The traveling that one has to do gives great opportunity for RP and a chance to get to know the lay of the land. It also allows one to find the proper trainers so they cane increase their skill. I have met some interesting characters on my journeys. I have met beggars, thugs, noobs (like myself), and helpful old-timers. The arena isn’t hard to get to and takes very little time. The buyer in the valley isn’t very hard to get to either. I have made a successful transaction with 0 armor, and 0 level sword. I use third person follow and zoom way out. If I see the rogue coming, I make a hasty retreat. In Oja there are plenty rats so once a young fighter gets there they can stay for a while and practice there weapon of choice.
This is just the way I see it, and I know not every one will agree. Take into account this is my very first Role Playing game, so by no means am I a great RPer (but I am trying :) ).

People are lazy, so am I. I'm a dwarf using daggers, but when I want to buy some training, I have to take the walk to Akkaio (over that boring road which I can walk along with my eyes closed and my big toe in one nosehole), and then all the way back again (over that road I mention in my previous ( ) ). It's shorter to go trough DR, and it's more exiting (not anymore, but ok). If you want people not to travel trough DR, then get those trainers and merchants to Hydlaa...

Besides, Hydlaa is the economical centre of Yliakum (so far). It's better for those merchants to get over here (more customers, more profit) and better for the citizens aswell (more jobs, lower prices due to competition). And it would safe alot of time...

Last thing: most people don't RP on a dangerous road, but on the plaza instead...

Guys, do you realize how many times the DR has been complained about. Get off it, things will change in time so just put up with it for now please.

Our goal isn't to accomodate lazyness. We don't want people stuck in the same city with everything right there for their convenience, leveling and leveling and leveling. Get out, explore, walk, meet people. It can be a lot more fun than you make it out to be.

My views were not directed at the DR itself, I understand it is a "for now" situation.

So that way only enkis are seen going through the DR all the time .. or whining everyone's ears off for moving at least some of the trainers to Ojaveda? I agree with Kary, it would be kinda boring to keep everything in one place.
