Technically speaking, there's not a damn thing we can do to stop you.  We just don't like it.  I have nothing against guilds having databases and bestiaries, but that info isn't public.  So, we'll ask nicely that you don't post links to spoilers, walkthroughs, scripts, etc. here and at least vaguely comply with our request.  Any stuff here that's over the line will be deleted.  If you still intend to have a spoiler database up, you simply won't be able to advertize it here.

Having people exchanging information out of the game isn't helping at all. This will reduce player interaction and you'll get to see a bunch of mute players that oftenly stop to alt-tab from the game, look at your website and go on camping, training and  leveling without exchanging one word with others. Let's not forget that the main focus of this game is RP, meaning player interaction after all. Besides this a game should be played ingame not on forums, websites or IRC. For simple questions like "How to make money, How to kill rats, etc" we have the players guide and a quite nice FAQ here, on the forums. Complementary to that all the guilds have a "tome of knoledge" so IMO, there are a bunch of places to find information without a speciffic site that gives spoilers. And one more thing, we don't call certain information "spoilers" for nothing. Try to imagine this: You make a new character and it is your first time you come ingame. Come to me and I'll give you all the info you need to get a full maxed character with all quests completed in a month. Will that make you feel better? You were a bot following my instructions. You have nothing more to discover so you'll quit, right? The fun in doing a quest isn't the reward, it is the fact that you found the answers by yourself.

K, well tell me what should I do of my site ? Just put it down ?

I thought I could make some of the "spoilers" only available for people who agree to have the game "spoilt". That group will have to request to join the gropu and I will personnaly let them in if they (of their own mouth, or hands) says "Yes, I agree to have the game spoilt by the information I will obtain from the sections I can access on PlaneShift Vault". Will that be OK ?

Again reflecting on the meaning of the worls "spoiler". "Game spoiler" means "something that can or does ruin the game experience for a player". It is completly up to you to decide if your site helps people (and think about that as a long term effect) or doesn't help them. IMO it will not help them and whatever warnings you will post there will be ignored. My playeble character's guild has for example a document containing all the trainers, all the quest solutions, all the NPCs and all the "whatever you want". The only people that will get into possesion of that document though are those who completed all the quests, know where the NPCs or trainers are located, etc. Since it seems useless after that you might wonder why would we give them that document. It is simple, because people forget and sometimes in order to help somebody else it is usefull to have a writen reference.
So, as DaveG said "Technically speaking, there's not a damn thing we can do to stop you.  We just don't like it." Why? Because it will ruin the game experience for some people

That's for you to decide... But you can turn it into something else - a collection of fan-art, something everyone wanted a website on, or expand on the Roleplay forum here and create a site with a giant collection of stories and lore, etc.

Over time PS had a lot of fan websites, guild websites. Not all of them did survive over time. But still, there are a lot of them.
Right now it seems that you have the technical structure and the will to create something.
Your first idea was to provide a knowledge sharing place. It's a good idea.
It's clear now that you can not use it to share informations that would spoil the point of playing: exploring, solving puzzling quests, working hard to progress in skills and fame.
So I suggest you to focus on sharing informations that would on the contrary increase the ingame life.
Quickly I can suggest you a few ideas. Some are easy to implement with collective contributions of a forum and others needing to be sorted and organised and kept up to date by mods.
  • 1. quick links: instead of having duplicates of ressources gathered on many "official" and fan websources.
  • 2. open debates areas.
  • 3. guilds spaces.
  • 4. reviews.
1: Provide to newcomers links to the essentials: guide, FAQ, policy, ...
some are on http://www.planeshift.it, some inside this forum and some are well made on guild's forums. Sort them up and provide a portal where to send any newcomer willing to know as much as possible without having to browse and lose themselves in outdated infos returned by a "search".
2: Run your own "hydlaa plaza" area that you can organise to your liking with as many subcategories you want. Music, games others than PS, books, movies, ... This can't be done here. It's a useful (and popular) section of the forums but here it's more borderline. Make it the core of the community of your subscribers.
3: I am sure that your offer to create groups and private guilds' sections will help a lot of guild leaders who don't have the knowledge/time to create one. Many
4: With all the hot topics that did, are and will fill this forums, yours could be used to point the important ones, summarize them, link to them and allow comments. Allow free flaming or on the contrary keep the essentials...Reviews can deal with this forums but also all the fan sites.

If your site is really helpful it will be popular. If it offers something different (more or less moderation) it will be used and you will not have wasted your energy.

I am sure you will find other useful ideas that won't interfere with ingame roleplay nor divulgate copyrighted material. Good luck and keep us informed.

A game forum! Man, people really wanted one, I believe :) Since we don't allow forum game threads in Hydlaa plaza, you can dedicate a whole section to it within your own board - and as I promised before, I'll sticky a link in Hydlaa Plaza so people have an outlet for such things.

Here's another ideea, a "News" section, something like a journal of everything that happens in Yliakum every day. Soon that section would be like a history book of all major events that happened (and all minor events too).
Also a section containing all the new technical features added to PlaneShift would be nice because there are alot of old players that had a long brake from PS and when they return, alot of things are changed and a section like that would help them alot.
I wish you luck with the website :)

I also created a "Market Place" so that people can sell their things or buy other's stuff :D

I am gonna create that "News" section as well as the "Updates" section (for the technical stuff)

And I'm gonna go to bed after this cause I am WAY after my bed time  :-\

So g'night every1

Some ideas for your HP (I provide them on german on my fansite):
- Moddingguids
- A Newbieguide
- Some technical Guides (e.g. a Mining Guide - without spoilders like where to dig...)
- A bigger faq-section as the one on the ps-hp
- A Screenshot section
- A guilde-list (with so more infos and in a more "viewable" format)
- A link list
- Polls

So far, good luck!
EDIT: If you need help, feel free to ask, maybe I can help you  :flowers:
