Market, trading, and shops
« on: June 30, 2006, 10:06:22 pm »
Since they rules where change on how to whirt chaters decption.  We need a new way for people to show there goods.

Ideas:

Market
  • There would be a market in each town, city, and vallege.
  • You would have to rent a stall from the npc that runs the market.
  • You would be able to show your goods to other chaters[/il]
[li]There woud be a chance for someone to steal your goods once the tiveing skill is add

Bussiness Liaison
  • The guidle or a Npc will sell you a liaison
  • You would be able to show your goods to other chaters
  • There would be a chance for someone to steal your goods once the tiveing skill is add

Show ownership
  • You will be able to own or rent a shop once it is applied
  • You would be able to show your goods to others
  • There would be a chance for someone to steal your goods
Why should I speak, if no one speaks?  Why should I approach, if no one approaches?  Why should I hear, if no one hears?

Good concepts, except for the theiving stuff.  I like the idea, but we probably won't do something like that.  At least not for a long while.

What rules have changed on character descriptions that affect shops?
Judge: Are you trying to show contempt for this court, Mr Smith?
Smith: No, My Lord. I am attempting to conceal it.

Indeed. You're not allowed anymore to type "you evaluate Karyuu is godlike and will kick your ass". But you can still write your goods in it.
We're not evil. We're simply amazing.

Yes, frankly that's one of the better uses for a character description I've seen.  Much better than typing out your whole life story in excessive detail for pages upon pages.

Bodacher takes a bow. "Royalties for all using this method can be sent to P.U.B.S. Auction House" :D

While not positive that I was the first one to use this method, I'm the first one that I've seen do it.  I did it for well over 6 months while running my shop and never heard a bad word about it, especially since I only listed names and price (no OOC info), and I RP'ed that people were reading the list on a piece of paper tacked to the barrel I was standing on.

Lately though, I've  gotten the impression that this practice was now frowned upon (though not necessarily against the rules) as being too OOC. I remember reading a Mod's post somewhere (too lazy to search for it and I can't remember who it was) that said character descriptions should only be what you, the character would be able to tell about the person by looking at them...guild info, whole background stories, and shop inventories should NOT be placed there....
Maybe I've misunderstoond the intent and while I do agree with that for the most part, if this method of listing a shop inventory cannot be used, then running a shop will become very difficult for one person, or become complete OOC chaos with everyone listing weapon stats.

Ultimately in a utopia character descriptions should only be for character descriptions. So if you can avoid putting OOC data in there, that's awesome. However, it's often very handy to have a shop inventory and RP with "*hands over a scroll* And tha's what Oi have in moi shop 'ere." That's just not what the description feature was made for, and in the future people will have other more logical means of displaying their store inventories.

I still think there should be away for you to lay out your goods and let people look at them.

That's an obvious suggestion, however.

We really do need a marketplace with NPCs and rentable stands.  (you're not the first to suggest this, I'm sure)
