Player given quests.
« on: July 02, 2006, 11:23:50 am »
Hi, i downloaded PS about 4 days ago and I'm waiting for the update :whistling:
Basically i don't know anything about the game apart from what i've read on the forum
so please don't get  :@#\ with me if I'm getin it all wrong.
Aparently you can get quests off NPCs likee in other games, but wouldn't it be great if players
could give quests to other players and give suitable rewards?
Maybe there would be some kind off seeing whether a player is giving a quest by the color of their name or something
or you just had to ask.

Any thoughts.

Would it be a good/bad idea?

ty in advance

There are players around that offer simple quests to newbies -- the rewards are basic swords and items mostly :)

There could be some kind of way to make sure that you arent skammed.

maybe whe nyou bring the item that they have requested, the only way you can get the prize is if you give the exact item you said u would. and the computer knows if your giving the right thing.

 ???

Players already attempt similar things, I guess you could put it down as part of rp. I don't really see what your post is getting at. If its a statement of an idea, already covered.
<Rux> i wish i could say that narrows it down, but the internet is one freaky place

The  \\o// color \\o// option for players offering quests seems like something for wishlist (makes me think of suggesting advisors get a color..  :offtopic: .).

As far as your general idea, yes, i already know of players & guilds who do offer quests IN character. Usually they are simply a find this thing or person, and announce the reward (some consider events to be like quests but that's a different), and are generally limited time offers. And usually generous or at the least somewhat interesting.

As far as being scammed, unless the player giving the quest decides they want to rp like an npc & only say "Do you understand what you are saying? I do not." or such when you ask about the reward... newer players know well enough after an npc quest or 2 that often what the quest asked of them is worth more than they are given upon giving that item.

and it is already such that when giving an item to an npc you only see yourself giving the item untill you accept the trade-- but with players the trade window opens both ways, so you can see what is being offered before clicking the button to accept the trade. Unless you don't know what something is worth it gets a little hard fo them to scam you (again, unless they claim they are rping like an npc & will only reward quest after being GIVEN an item... but who has patience fo someone rping like an npc anyway?!)

Besides, while we all value our items; experience is the most valuable commodity in a roleplay. It can get frustrating trying to find more quests to do --more player quests means more to do. It's certainly something i like the idea of... ( And i hope not to regret not having searched "player quests" & "quests" before replying...)

I thought GM already had the option of giving players quests.

And I really support it. I think I'll make a 100% RP quest that any player can start with me. Looking for items, rping with other players who want to participate.. It could be useful and fun for both me and the other players.

A quest is nothing more than a task .. anyone can give tasks to others and reward them (or choose not to) when the task is finished. The only thing players can't give as a reward is experience, this is something some GM's can do but lately I haven't seen many GM run events anymore.

Bottom line .. anyone can give quests, tasks, jobs, etc. and it's a great way to make friends or roleplay, if done right anyway. Make a little story around it and you're doing great. Anything but OOC. As for being scammed ... that's a risk you take in real life as well. If you trust anyone who says, do this for me and I'll give you that, you might end up being used as a free and naïve worker. Being scammed can be completely in character if the other character is a con-artist/criminal.
