Llanx and Talad
« on: July 02, 2006, 05:43:54 pm »
I have been reading Yliakums History because the story will coincide with my guild story in some way

I did not fully understand the history:

Why did Llanx suddenly turn into a man?
After they no longer spoke who ruled Yliakum?
Which races were brought in by which god?
Who named Hydlaa?
Who holds the power of the crystal way?
Is Llanx good or bad?
Is Talad good or bad?

for the last two. yes.

Why did Llanx suddenly turn into a man?
mostly to try and piss off talad, and becuase she was royally pissed at him.

After they no longer spoke who ruled Yliakum?
i think by that time the yliaki could rule theselves to some extent

Who holds the power of the crystal way?
the power comes from the crystal itslef
may laanx frighten the shadow from my path.
hardly because the shadow built the lexx.
the shadow will frighten laanx from my path.

I'm not of the settings team so I'm not 100% certain that my answers are right but I'll try to answer your questions as well as I can ...

1. Laanx turned into a man because he had changed and was no longer the female deity of before .. I'd say a god can change sex whenever they want because it's just a representation anyway. I see it as a symbolical change, pointing out that Laanx went from one end to the spectrum to the other.

2. They both competed for 'rulership' .. well it's to say that Laanx wished ill on Talad and wanted him to lose followers and lose face. Talad felt sorry for Laanx at first but I think it's safe to say that they compete for followers now.

3. Talad first created the Kran and Laanx created the lemurs afterwards ... all the other races were led to the world of Yliakum by Vodul, the elder god. Who created them .. I don't know but I do know neither Laanx nor Talad had any input in their existence or even their coming to Yliakum. Some races were quickly approaced by one particular god when they first came to Yliakum through the portals though.

4. I actually have no idea who named Hydlaa .. I'm guessing the first people who created the city.

5. The crystal way is commonly attributed to Talad if I'm not mistaken but all magic ways are available for all people, regardless of their religion.

6. & 7. At first sight you might say that Laanx is bad and Talad is good but I don't believe things can be seen that black and white. Neither are good or bad. Both simply are what their past experiences made of them. You could say that at the moment Laanx is bitter and more vengeful while Talad feels guilty for what happened and tends to interfere less. Both gods have the power to create and destroy though so it just depends on what they want to do.

"Laanx was not beautiful anymore and she fell down into a deep depression that shattered her heart like a mirror. Mindless of Talad's pain in causing her harm, she denied her being, her femininity"

Would it be ok to suggest in my guild story that Talad is now meditating again to gain more knowledge so he can rid yliakum of llanx who he feels is becoming more vindictive.

You can write as if that's what your character "thinks," but definitely don't try to pass it off as reality :) That would be changing the setting.
Judge: Are you trying to show contempt for this court, Mr Smith?
Smith: No, My Lord. I am attempting to conceal it.

3. Talad first created the Kran and Laanx created the lemurs afterwards ...

Laanx first created the Lemurs for both of them (before the "Division" between the two gods), and Talad created the Kran afterwards (and in doing so he disfigured Laanx).

4. I actually have no idea who named Hydlaa .. I'm guessing the first people who created the city.

That happened in the 3rd Epoch, by Talad, but the origin of the name traces back to Vodùl, and so it is quite mysterious:

"Talad gave up any hope to be reconciled with the old friend and, now alone, turned his thoughts to the people left in the town they had created. He called it "Hydlaa", the name of the most powerful glyph, that Vodùl had revealed to Laanx and that led Talad to ignore prudence to satisfy his pride."

So Hydlaa refers to the crystal creative energy used in both Lemurs' and Kran's creations.

Couldn't agree more...  :)
