2 questions
« on: July 07, 2006, 03:32:54 am »
I have 2 questions to ask, one thats kind of important, the other one is simply about opinion:

1) In the laanx dungeon, how can I get down those two ladders near the bottom? I've died 2-3 times trying to get down the second one, and the game keeps crashing when I'm in the Death Realm.

2) After the wipe, should I stick to my current race, Nolthrir, or should I choose another?

(1) You have to have 100 hp to make the jump.

(2) that is your decision alone.  :)
I've been outside, it's overrated and the graphics suck!

Oh great, that means I'll have to wait a while before making the jump....

And about my race, well I think I'll stick with what I chose. The face may be ugly, but then again I never see it, so it doesn't bug me.

You can try jumping on handrails...less damage

Erm ... I'm guessing that you were asking about the ladders that lead you down in the largest cave in the dungeons, not the jump down the well. In that case I recommend sneaking down very carefully and slowly ;)

The other entrance is actually an exit, and you shouldn't be able to use it ;)

Well you said the two ladders near the bottom so think you mean the two ladder near the place you can mine iron. The first one you can get of and survive normally but I myself don't seem to be able to get of the second without dieing myself.

option 1 would be trying the crouching. Haven't tryed it myself there yet as I have been exploring the new ars but thought that might indeed be a good way to decend those wooden ladders

option 2 is don't use the ladder but walk further. As you walk further the distance between the ridge and the ground becomes less and you should be able to jump at one point without much damage.

The other question is up to you. If you stay with the same character a racechange would seem strange to me for RP reasons but if you are just creating a different character you can chose whatever you want ofcourse ;)

Hope it helps.

oh, you mean that ladder...I was wondering why someone kept jumping off it every 10 minutes or so.  ::| You probably can use it depending on your hp, though there really is no point when you can carry on and jump off further along. I tried it and almost died.

when i was playing i got sent to the DR and as i went through i crashed many times. however when i got to one point, i crashed and after that i could not get back into the game.  every time (about 6 or 7 times) i logged in, the loading screen would come up and when the loading would be done the game would crash.  i dont know if it is something with the Mac Client or just a bug in the DR but i can no longer play with that character.

This is probably a case of this bug. If you post your character's name in that thread, a GM will try to move him/her to a safer location.
Judge: Are you trying to show contempt for this court, Mr Smith?
Smith: No, My Lord. I am attempting to conceal it.

For going down that ladder: In the last version i used going sidewards to go down the ladder, because it was the slowest way to move. You could also try the crouching as Pestilence said, I have not tried that myself yet.

When finding myself at the top of a ladder that I wish to go down, I first use the Page Down key until I am looking straight down on my character, then I use the strafe keys to move sideways down the ladder. In the current 0.3.015 version of PlaneShift the default strafe keys are "Q" and "E" but these can be changed in the in-game Options.

Strafing is also useful when entering the dry well inside the Laanx Temple, because the first bit of the well's inside wall isn't vertical, so you strafe down that part to where the vertical drop is much lower than the drop if you jump or run off the marble top of the well - I haven't lost health from that first drop yet.

Strafing can also get you up or down some very steep slopes out in the wilderness areas of Yliakum, but you need to perform a series of zig-zag or switchback manoeuvres, and do them slowly and carefully.

- running PlaneShift Mac OS X Tiger (10.4.11) Client, on an Apple iMac G5 2GHz PowerPC processor, 2GB DDR SDRAM, an ATI Radeon 9600 graphics card with 128MB VRAM, a 20-inch active-matrix LCD widescreen display, and a 250GB Serial ATA hard drive... so what's your excuse, huh?
