Im new to the whole mmorpg thing, and very lost
« on: July 08, 2006, 09:26:00 am »
I just started playing a little while ago, and left the city i started in. Are there any other cities to go to, or will i somehow have to find my way back to where I started?

I guess it was kinda stupid to leave the city, but im new to this type of game, and couldnt tell the npcs apart from the other players, and didnt want to disturb any role playing with stupid noob questions, lol... so i figured id go out and kill something...

Currently i am in a huge castle above a waterfall, i havent seen any other players in a while, my attacks dont hurt the monsters at all, and i somehow dodged every attack from monsters, except when a group of crablike creatures ganged up on me...

Welcome to PlaneShift :}

All games usually have guides for new players, and we are not an exception. A Player Guide is included with your download, and can be found through the main website. We also have stickied threads in this forum section, such as the Gameplay FAQ and "Getting Started In-Game." There is quite an amount of information already available for new players.

Our recent update brought with it some new bugs, some of which affect combat. These will be fixed ASAP, but in the meantime hang in there and try to pass your time through other activities. We have several places for you to explore: the city of Hydlaa, dsar of Akkaio, Bronze Doors fortress, and several wilderness maps, along with the Death Realm.

If there are any specific questions you have that are not answered in any of our guides, feel free to ask.

There are no in-game maps or compasses right now. In the future players will be able to make their own maps through the Cartography skill, and share them between each other. You can always ask other players for directions, but if you're absolutely desparate to return to your starting city and try to follow some paths from the beginning again, you can try typing /die. This will take you to the Death Realm which will require finding its own exit, but at the end you will be spawned back where you first started in the game. Not recommended of course, but the option is there if you cannot find anyone to give you further directions.

But truly, all roads have a start and a destination. Follow the roads and don't wander off, and you'll reach one city or another.

If you're in the Bronze Doors region I'm sure someone will be along at some point.  It's new and fancy, so everyone's heading out there to check it out.  Just tell them you're lost and ask to tag allong.  ;)

There are a few ways to get back to your hometown:

- /shout Help, I am lost ... (describing the area around you); with a little luck some people may start a rescue team
- /die (last chance exit; not very roleplaying - and the Death Realm isn't easy to leave either...)
- /petition (similar to /die - only for the desperate; and no guarantee)

I wouldn't recommend a /petition at all. There is nothing GMs can do for you - they aren't there to guide the lost to or from maps. They can tell you where you are if they see the petition when you are online, but if you are offline and just asking for help because you are lost, the petition will just be removed.
