according to the irc topic. still don't run the updater. there have been reports of it being safe, but those are few and far between.

best not update.

I am curious, why all the redownloading?  Doesn't anyone just save the install file?  Heck, I still have the install file from MB!   ;D

You really should just download the new version entirely.

There seem to be some opposite information from this thing, one sticky thread called 'known fixes' is very strongly telling you to run updater, but then here is information that it should not be run, personally I have not found differences as I think I have had only fresh new version, but maybe it is offical infomation that don't run updater but instead do fresh full install?

Check the dates on the posts you read, The known fixes thread was before the new 0.015 release. I think

A lesson in stickies:

1)  PS Tech Help Guide
2)  **** DON'T RUN THE UDPATER! ****

Which of the 2 do you think wins here?...  :P

Simply put, I'm not going to temporarily edit every sticky when the update servers are down for a little bit.

I have an idea: Why don't we make a sticky thread telling if the updater is safe to use? I don't mean temporary ones like we have them now, but one that in a short sentence says "yes" or "no" to using the updater. This thread just needs a little edit every once and then (when a new client is released and then when the updater can be used again). And another advantage: You could link to this thread in the installer program, because now, after installing PS it always says "Run the updater now (highly recommended)", giving bad advice to new people who did not yet see in the forum that there is such a thread.

I'm not sure about the suggestion. There is a quite clear sticky saying "**** DON'T RUN THE UDPATER! ****".

Normally you should run the updater and only during few days(weeks) after a major release you shouldn't. And that's why the sticky is there.

I've got a big honkin' warning, and we've told you many times.  That's all you need.  If you don't follow instructions, great, you've wasted almost 2 whole minutes.  Re-install and move on.  It's not like screwing this up will make your computer explode, or even inconvenience you mildly.  Only problems arise when people don't even read the top sticky in all caps with asterisks around it and an exclamation mark.

Simply don't update right now.

Just _don't_ do it
