Unable to inflict any damage whatsoever! (Also pp error)
« on: July 13, 2006, 10:44:54 am »
Not even rats. I know this has been mentioned, but I wanted to add information to other people's brief descriptions.

It would seem to me all players who have tried to remake thier charicters after the wipe cannot do damage. I have tried new charicters many times and yet, still no attack. I even managed to get a weapon, and no damage. I have tried different classes and races too!

Also, Progression Points are defaulted as 0, whereas in the manual, they are supposed to start at 5. How can anybody new do anything without afew starting PP?? Thats no skills requiring training to start, and no combat to gain progression points.

This issue really needs to be dealt with.

I'm having exactly the same problem:

In game I am able to equip 2 steel falchions.
When in battle I hit those foul rats all the time, but I always fail to do any damage.
Once, but only once I killed a rat in about 3 or 4 hits.  ::| I was so astonished and tried again, and again, and...
...well I never killed a rat since then.

When I look at my stats, I see that for all fighting skills I have nill. With the PP I got for killing the rat I trained with Harnquist, but I could only do that once, and still all of my fighting skills are nill (some bars have more green in them though...). I do have some levels in magic. While creating my character I knew that it would be more difficult to fight, but I didn't knew It was impossible!
Is this because I have level nill for all fighting skills, and do I have to gain PP by using magic, and then train? Or is this really a bug?  ???

I hope someone answers this question, because I would hate do delete my character  :'(

Rashin Cirelen

[edit]
Yeah, I know: I should read first :whistling:

However: this question still stands: am I able to gain PP by magic and increase my sword skill by training, or am I stuck at nill for the time being?
I know I can try out, but It's waste of time and energy when I fail to level up, isn't it?
Thanks in advance!

The PP you get can be used towards any skill, so yes, PP obtained by using magic on a rat and killing it, can then be used to train sword.  This is until you have maxed theoretical training (the bar turns fully green).   In order to train the skill to the next level, you would then have to use this skill.  In the case of swords, that would mean you landing blows on a mob and doing damage to it while having a sword equiped.  The problem is, from what I'm understanding about the combat bug, is that players aren't able to do any damage, which wouldn't allow them to level their combat skills.

Thanks for you answer neko
Indeed I am not able to do damage. O well.. I will try to level up my swords skill to at least once, and if I see no progression... well... a new mage has born ;)

Im having the same problem as mentioned above. I cant do any damage to enemys!   :'(
It makes no difference what kind of "monster" i attack.Even if somebody weakens the rats for me i still cant do any damage.

I created my character: 15.07.06 (Day.Month.Year)
My system: OPEN-SUSE 10.1 (not using XGL&Compiz)

but im pretty shure that this error has nothing todo with the my system!   ;)
I hope that this problem will be solved soon....and im greatefull about every kind of help.

Look to your skills, if there is number 0 next to for example melee skill, then you can't use that to combat anything, also if your skill level is 0 for sword then it won't help even you would have best sword, you are not able to do any damage and also it seems quite impossible to get level to 1.

I have melee skill 0 and I have trained it to near as far as I could, but still it is not possible for me to damage a rat with bare hands, but as far as I know this problem is noted and there may be update for this matter in near or far future. So meanwhile options are either to create character that has melee skill level at least 1 or find some other ways to have fun in game, there is so much to do in this world, much more than you can think of in first few days :)

This is a bug that apparently has been reported.

New people get stuck if they have no training levels in any weapon because you can't hit anything without levels (well, you do have about a 1 in 100 chance I hear).  To train your weapon  you need trias and progression points.  Trias can be gotten through questing, but progression points you can get through combat and mining, both of which require previous training.  You can't gain xp through grouping unless your character can hit stuff.  If your character has no training in mining or any weapon, you won't be able gain progression points and advance your character at this time.

If you want to do something about it, the only thing I found is to delete your charater and remake it with a change or two. You can make almost the same exact character, except when you're choosing your background, make a parent a blacksmith/weaponsmith or a miner or some other combat related back story and you will start out with a level or two in sword or mining.  This will allow you to get progression points in game and train skills.

hello and thanks for your help,
in my case it worked without any change in caracter.
Maybe it was just luck, but now i can do damage to enemys!

i dont know if this will help other users, but in my case it worked:
It worked from the moment when i placed a normal axe in the right hand and a short (steel)sword in to the other hand.

i hope that this will work for others, too.
I heared from other people that the strength of the used weopon makes no difference, so im afraid that it was just some kind of luck....

bye

Hello again!

Just posting to tell that I am able to inflict damage now!  :D
With the use of an arrow glyph (I had some experience in magic in the crystal way), I was able to kill a few monsters. The PP I got from that, I used to train myself in sword skills, untill the system said I couldn't have anymore training yet (my level still was nill then). I went into the sewers and... I killed a rat with my swords. I killed a few more and: I leveled up and could train some more.

By the way, I just used the same 2 swords (steel falchions) as before when I coudn't inflict damage.
I don't know if this will work for others as well, but I tend to believe so.

Good luck y'all!

It has nothing to do with making a new Cheater. My dwarf wich I made some time in the month of June or april can not use his axe now. He his 0 in this skill and it is not green.

I have also put this in the bug tracker. :)
Why should I speak, if no one speaks?  Why should I approach, if no one approaches?  Why should I hear, if no one hears?

in my case this problem comes and goes from time to time.
Lets take the rats for example:
Normaly i do a demage between 1 and 5, but there are times where i cant do any damage to them or only 0.11.
I mean okay thats not such a big problem, but it goes on my nerves!  >o)

hope this whole fighting system will be fixed soon

I couldn't kill any rats or anything to make any money, so I went to Ojeveda and sold the rat hides I had from before. I then went to the melee trainer and trained twice. I then ran out of PP and couldn't train anymore. The only skill I have a 1 in is mace and hammer, and I just found out that you can't use that skill yet. And it is impossible to start with melee at 1 (i've tried).  :@#\   :@#\   :@#\ !!!!! When will this bug be fixed?! Nobody who is new can fight in-game because of this!

EDIT:
I apoligize profusely to everyone who was annoyed by this. I just used updater-old.jar and got the update. the bug was fixed. Thank you so much, dev team!
