1. Start PS and log on.
2. Travel to the bronze doors region
3. Log out
4. Start PS with -relight option and log on again
5. Wait! Loading took around 1,5 hours on my system. ( AMD Athlon64 3200+, 1024 MB )
6. Everything should look fine now. Log off again and start PS without -relight

Pay extra attention to the point 5, it will take long time.

Since this is a Linux forums I assume that you are using Linux.

Start the console (konsole on KDE) and go to the directory where PS is installed, which should be /opt/planeshift in most of the cases. Then enter ./psclient -relight and wait couple of hours.

Any idea when a (real) fix will be available?

Of course the relight option will work around it, but isn't a true fix  :-\

I have the same "black textures" near the waterfall.  So I ran the psclient from the terminal with the relight switch.  I typed it exactly as follows:
Code: [Select]
./psclient -relightI don't think the operation worked because it only took a few minutes and those of you who have performed it report it taking over an hour.

My system specs are as follows:
Dell Dimension 8400
CPU: P4 3.0 Ghz
RAM: 1GB
Video: ATI X300 128MB ( driver/fglrx ver 8.28.8 )
OS: Ubuntu 6.06

I'm a very long time Windows user and I'm still learning Linux so I still don't understand everything that's going on under the hood.  Each stage PSClient load was successful but several files weren't found, able to be opened, or deleted.  This makes me wonder if I was suppose to run this as sudo.

I have the terminal output saved as a text file but I didn't post it in code blocks because it was really long.  I do have it though.  Sorry I'm such a noobie about this.

* peeg mutters something about Ubuntu with quite an angry face

sudo ... no! No game should need root-access to your system to run!
Running alpha-software as root is .... well, crazy  ::|

Did you travel to the bronze doors  before you started PS with -relight? You have to - the engine only relights the current sector your char's onto.

This method only takes a few minutes. If you use Relight in setup, it takes a very long time, depending on your system and system settings.

Video: ATI X300 128MB ( driver/fglrx ver 8.28.8 )  I suggest a driver rollback, try the 8.26.3 instead.
I had some other issues with the latest driver, but when i use the previous version, everything worked great :)
Trying wont hurt anything.

Edit: actualy the 8.17.2 was the most stable for me :)

Thanks. I will go to the bronze doors area and run it.  When I originally ran it, I was in town.  Thanks for the help.

It worked fine.  There was one small area that looked like the ground was invisible.  I thought, hmm, the ground was black and I could walk on it so why not try invisible.  Note to self: invisible ground doesn't seem as solid as black ground.  It was an interesting way to visit the DR though.
