When I said useful, I meant the player running uncontrolably in circles while naked. Not helpful because the player is naked. Sorry, Should have been more specific. I would like to see your average cool spells like fireworks from fingertips, or say blowing lightning bolts out of your nose, then there could be spells were other players can only speak obscenities in foreign tongues, or throwing up untcontrollably (This could lower hunger I guess).

Illusions like a blade of grass, a stone, a sword, a mug of ale, and so on would have a use... It is called stealth. If something is looking for you and you change into a blade of grass, then it is just like a rogue using a hide skill. When it is done out of the field it is just a party trick so it has two uses, entertainment and stealth.

This thread is kind of diverging.  You guys are talking about both Illusion class spells (which the game already has) and minor (less useful and \'just for fun\') spells.  In typical tabletop RPGing, the minor spells are usually called \'cantrips\' and can have humorous and useful side effects.  A good example is \'Glow Nose\' (from 2nd edition DND) that makes a person\'s nose glow (duh).  It\'s funny, but it also works as a small light in an emergency.  Other examples are a mini-flame spell (for lighting torches), spells that slightly alter your appearence (look green or slightly taller, etc), and various flares/fireworks (for signaling friends or impressing yocals).  Anything that actually gives an advantage in combat (causes damage, hides you, etc) is NOT a cantrip and is regulated to the specific schools of magic at an appropriate level.  Also, cantrips follow the normal magic resistance rules, so if your skilled and don\'t want the effect, then someone can\'t force it on you.

Rudolf the red-nose reindeer...
Wow, a spell to make your nose glow, what a splendid idea :D I just cannot take that seriously! Just imagine Gandalf in a dangerous situation when a room is completely dark, and his staff is gone...but he has one last chance...to use his nose as a lamp!
If you\'re going to bed one night and wanna read your favourite book you don\'t need to quit just becuse it becomes too dark to read. Just swich your nose and voil

Alright, time to put the cards on the table.

On side says no humour spells because it would just give some players a chance to be annoying right? Well, if this were to implement with a karma system, so if they annoyed people regardless of alignment, their status would go down, for being annoying. Penalty? They have to pay more for stuff or something.

I personally think there should be humour spells, too many games are so wrapped up in being serious with the dragons and goblins, that they start looking like every other fantasy game. I mean, you could never mistake Mario for Banjo-Kazooie, if Link and Squall were standing side-by-side you would know the differance. Because they\'re resoundingly differant. If having a flatulance spell makes this game stand out? Why not? Why recycle old spells about fire and lightning bolts?

Sorry if I sounded rude, I really am, but I just think rpg games should take themselves more lightly at times.

Sorry if I sound brash. But take a look around on the fantasy sites. the ratio of cliche to fun is about 10 to 1. It gets to the point where they all have about the same stuff with slightly differant rules. I think humourous spells would give the game a fun appeal. Of you were a knight and you wanted some spells to show off, you could use these. Just for kicks. So I like it.

I think, humorous Spells could be a lot of fun. Imagine the guy who insulted you / stole your precious magic sword / what ever, and you want revenge without doing some illegal stuff.
What about letting his nose grow long, make all his clothes and armor fall to the ground, or let something funny happen that marks him as a bad guy for a while?

yeah that\'d be cool, when those \"Kewl Uber d00d\" comes by with his \"uber\" items, making fun of all the new people, you could make is armor look like rags so nobody could see whats so great.  8)

Yeah, these ideas, both positive and negative, are good.  But then, suppose some newbie had just joined the game and was prepared to play well, but died of laughing in real life when an army of sword-wielding ducks waddle past speaking English and filling the town with laughter.  Okay, it is a bit of fun i suppose.  It sounds like the old kind of \"Please mister Gandalf don\'t turn me into anythin\'...unnatural *gulps*\".  Having people pleaing to powerful wizards won\'t beg not to be blown up, only beg not to be turned into an English polititian.  Now that WOULD be funny ;)
Don\'t be brash and take that stash of hash you found in the trash, it won\'t get you cash but you will dash out to splash something on the nasty rash it gives you.

Or perhaps a spell that changed their gender so you could turn an army into purse wielding, hose wearing, warriors? I would enjoy walking from town to town like using my powers to entertain people for money, like a gypsy or something.

I suppose this sort of thing could be implemented into a bard type class.  Another idea of humorous spells isn\'y just making bad people go around naked, but also very funny songs.  A bard or minstrel or whatever could go to a kind of recording studio thing and write up some lyrics.  Then the lyrics could be turned into a text macro or the like so that the busker could have a good sing-song and make passers by laugh.

Yeah, that sounds cool. Being able to compose your own music would be really cool.

But what happens when the \"Kewl-d00d\" gets his hands on these spells?!?! Ah... Noobs would be helpless! There\'d have (hopefully) to be some way to regulate it. Maybe you could do another \"honor system\" or make them sign some contract..

I suppose if you had two types of classes for these spells. One being Entertainment, being light shows and self transmogrification, and the second being mischief, being nude spells, name changing, whoopi coushon spells, and so on. They could make it so your not limited on Entertainment spells, but you could only do soo many mischief spells a day. If you chose jester as a class, you could be unlimited, I guess.

This isn\'t monthy python, and it will propably never be, unless the devs decides it would be great to let everybody run around naked in town, turning other players to cows, implant feminine orc NPCs into the game etc.
I have an idea! There\'s going to be more than one server right? Let\'s create a normal server for us role-players, and a \"monty-python\" server for the monty Python players! both parts will become happy!
I agree that there should be \"fancy moves\" and music, but \"sword-wielding ducks\"? Do you belive in that idea yourself?
Of course there should be humour in the game, but let it have some style! No stupid humour like \"naked people\", \"gigantic heads\", \"small arms\" etc. cause it isn\'t funny, It just makes the game become silly!

BTW. I still don\'t see the \"humour\" in a spell that lets the players \"run naked through town\", but I suppose you aren\'t serious...
