Newbie in a bind
« on: July 19, 2006, 05:01:07 am »
Well, somehow, within my first 10 minutes of play, I fell off the edge of the world and died. The result? I'm lost in some dim dark area with no light, no equipment.... and no clue. Any idea where I ended up or what to do?

well you ended up in the death realm.

as for the brightness issue. try logging out and back in, failing that try running the game wit the fullbright option.
may laanx frighten the shadow from my path.

You are in the death realm, every time your character dies you go there. Now you have to find a way out to proove that you deserve to live.
So just follow some more experienced players, or ask them if they could lead you out. Furthermore there are no other penelties your character suffers from dieing.

To fix the brightness issue, try adjusting your monitor's brightness. If it still doesn't work, then use -fullbright. Just search for that, to find more information about it.

And by the way, this question has been asked countless times, so I suggest you use the search button before posting a question, as there are many questions that are quite common.

Running the game with -fullbright involves right-clicking on your PlaneShift shortcut icon (assuming you're using Windows), and adding -fullbright at the end of the Target line, like so:

This will basically eliminate lighting in your game, so everything will be bright and rather boring looking, but you can always disable this option if you tire of it and don't encounter the darkness again.

Once you find yourself in the DR, you'll have to find the exit. It's a bit tricky as it's not in plain sight, and asking other players around you within the game is generally a good idea. The exit looks like this, just so you know what you are looking for ;}

Good luck!

Smith: No, My Lord. I am attempting to conceal it.

Mostly when you fall off an edge while trying to find your way out of the Death Realm, you will be returned to the 'Arrivals' area to try again. There are times when you end up in a really dark area and wandering around a vast flat place just bumping into things: just type "/die" -leave out the quote marks- and you'll be returned to the start of DR again.

Sometimes you can get stuck in the landscape of DR just as you can back on the surface, if that happens, just type "/unstick"  -leave out the quote marks.

There is always someone else to talk to in Death Realm -even when it looks like you are the only one there! ;)
- running PlaneShift Mac OS X Tiger (10.4.11) Client, on an Apple iMac G5 2GHz PowerPC processor, 2GB DDR SDRAM, an ATI Radeon 9600 graphics card with 128MB VRAM, a 20-inch active-matrix LCD widescreen display, and a 250GB Serial ATA hard drive... so what's your excuse, huh?

While they might be there, it seems that from my experience at least, that the Death Realm is the same as everywhere else in this game, 90% of the time while people might be standing right next to you they will just ignore you!

1)  90% of all statistics are made up, includingthis one.
2)  Ever think they could be simply afk at the time?
3)  Or if they are there, perhaps they are chatting in guild/group and simply didn't see your text.
4)  Or if they are in a group and currently chatting, perhaps they ignore you becuase you interrupted thier conversation.
5)  Or perhaps you get ignored, simply becuase you don't ask in a nce enough way.  As in, "Excuse me good sir/madam, I'm sorry to be a bother, but do you happen to know they way out of the here?"  as opposed to
"he yyou, where is teh exit!!1one" will get you alot farther with others.
6)  Perhaps they simply ignore you as you said.  I ignore quite a few people in real life, afterall, I'm not going to just strike up a conversation with every random Joe of Jill that greets me.  I've got things to do, places to be afterall.  But the least I do is I say I can't talk to them for stated reasons before I run off.  I don't see why it doesn't have to be any different in the game world.
