can only play for 10 minutes max...then BOOM!!

ok the subject kinda says it all, but im going to run through exactly what happens.

i load up the game (starting screen with blue bar across the bottom) fine, no problems.

on the email and password srceen it looks as though its a freshly painted picture that some one has smudged ?

i click on ok and get to the character screen, the same visual problem there aswell

the world loading screen seems to be ok, no problems with that

the world loads, and i can play for any time between 10 seconds and 10 minutes, then with NO warning the game quits me back to desktop.

there are NO error messages, and its as if the game just automatically logs me out.

im running an:-

AMD 64 3000+ MMx 3Dnow @ 2Ghz
512 Mg RAM
1.2 Gg Page file (240 Mg used)
Win xp Sp2
Radeon 9800 PRO (128 Mg AGP ver.) with DX 9.0c

i have tried running the game windowed and in full screen both with the same results, and i tried the -console command in the shortcut to see if theres any problems coming up in there but when the game crashes the console window closes aswell.

Any help would be much appreciated (as its taken me a day and a half just to REACH the sewers) and i will respond to all replies, because its a help me to help you to help me situation.

Oof.. Say, have you tried checking if you have the latest drivers for your graphics card?

yes all my drivers are up to date, bios, sound, catalyst drivers for ati even monitor and mouse drivers.
ive tried reinstalling and patching again and it doesnt seem to have any effect.
are there any known issues or conflicts with certain software? e.g. AOL, Deamon tools...antivirus software?
does it need to be installed on the c:\ drive?

and is there any way of making the -console stay up after the game has crashed? i noticed that I was unable to copy/paste any information from the console, would it be possible/feasable to code the console to stay and be copy/paste/clipboard compliant?

Hmm, that looks like faulty video card to me, do you have other games and do they work without problems?

If you want to see the console after an exit/crash, just run it from a prompt.

This is obviously graphics card related.  If you're sure you're up to date, we might want to as a CS guy about this.

I had a similar problem, the game would crash after the character selection screen, while the game was loading. It would also send me back to my desktop without any error messages whatsoever. I decided to run the updater, and guess what: it worked. Now I don't have that problem, and I can even see my Nolthrir's leather armor (on him, not in the inventory).

i have many games and they are all working perfectly, bf2 cod2 titan quest 2, mechwarrior4, all quite high graphic content to name but a few. I am having no problems with any other games, applications or even my OS.

im going to try the prompt way with the console, just to see if there are any strange error messages that appear there. I'm 100% sure i'm up to date with my graphics drivers, but whatsa CS guy? are where would i find one to ask?

EDIT:- tried the -console in command prompt and it doesnt stay up for long, it stays up for an extra couple of seconds and then it dissapears.
Oh and BTW i run the updater every day before i attempt to play, just incase anything is released that i dont know about.

Is there any way you can hit Print Screen and take a screenshot of the console window before it's gone?

There's something you may like to use:

You can redirect the console output to a file, as it has been stated in another thread of this forums (useful trick)

Open a MS-DOS command prompt.
Navigate till Planeshift Crystal Blue
Launch the game as it follows: psclient.exe/-console>consolelog.log

This will create a file named consolelog.log in your main PS folder that will contain all the info that console contains.

Just select the info you want to add from the file consolelog.log and paste it here.

oookaaaay i tried what you suggested  Nilrem but when i typed in exactly what you wrote the console wasn't launched and nothing was saved to a file.to start the console i type " psclient.exe -console " but the 'greater than' symbol doesnt seem to help at all. so i tried

psclient.exe -console consolelog.log

and that worked so here is the result

Long time ago, far, far away PS was running nice, crashing sometimes. Life was easy. About 3 client releases ago it started to crash very often with EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION at 696A9EF0. But after 0.3.015 release it started disappearing from memory without any trace. No process running, no error message, just as described by Klepp. And that strange graphics, I have the same problem in a password and character screen and also in inventory and guild windows. But I had that graphics problem long before problems with crashing and disappearing so I think it's not related.

There are no problems with any other game on my system.

Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2
processor: AMD Sempron 2300+ 1583MHz
main board: ABIT NF7-S2
- network and sound onboard
memory: 768 MB
Graphics card: nVidia GeForce4 MX 440

EDIT
I've turned off the sound in PS setup. Now I'm playing for about 3 hours without any crash and I'm still logged in  \\o// . No access violation at 696A9EF0. Program doesn't disappear. It's something with a sound again.

in another land, far far away, a game crashing problem with sound was associated with windows trying to open associated sound files with a particular program. being a drunk dwarf. i don't remember if it was a specific program. i just remember that changing the association through windows and/or uninstalling the prog fixed the issue. for some reason, my little dwarf mind says winamp.

Not in this case. I uninstalled winamp but PS still crashes with sound. Also strange colors are only visible if sound is on.
