Mac PlaneShift Install Instructions

I have been very frustrated with PS on the mac, because it is hard to install, particularly the first time. I have some basic things that tend to work for me and I would like to share them with everyone. My step-by-step instructions to get planeshift up and running:

1: Register on the main PlaneShift site. Get the email, activate your account, and remember your password.
2: Get BitTorrent online here (http://www.bittorrent.com). This is very important if you have a slow connection, but it still helps quite a bit if you have high-speed internet.
3: Go to the PlaneShift Downloads page (http://www.planeshift.it/download.html), scroll to the bottom of the page under the Mac section, and download the Bittorrent file.
4: Go to your desktop and double-click on the .torrent file to start the download
5: When it is done, you can leave the downloader running to help others download it, or you can quit
6: Get updater.jar or updater-old.jar. You can find them by doing a forum search or look in ChaOs' thread (http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=14416.0). Get updater-old.jar if you have 10.3.9 or below, but you can get updater.jar if you have 10.4 or above (I think; I haven't tested that).
7: Move the updater.jar or updater-old.jar to your Planeshift3D folder.
8: Run the updater.jar or updater-old.jar and click Start Update. This will take a while. Go take a nap and come back later.
9: Double-click the pssetup.app in the Planeshift3D folder. Make sure the settings are OK with you. If you don't care about resolution, skins, and stuff like that, skip this step.
10: Double-click on the psclient.app. Enter your email and password on the main screen and click join. Make your character, and join in the fun!!!

Also, if the java updater don't work, you have to change the Java Settings in some panel.

I agree it's hairy, it's not much more easy for Windows or Linux users I guess. Also there is traps here and there, sometimes the links are broken (outdated version, nothing, corrupted version, etc), sometimes you must upgrade sometimes you must not even if system messages tell it to you. Often you must do a clear install and lose your preferences, chat logs, screenshots, etc.

All this is a formidable source of confusion.

Well, dfryer doesn't like it when I say this... but you can just use the Java installer. It's very simple... Download, unzip, run, "Start Update." On the other hand, it's really bad for the update servers (which is dfryer doesn't like it when I say this). I just think we should get more update servers, since it's more efficient in the long-run: one download instead of a download followed by an update.

I have been using the java updater. I even suggested it in the step-by-step. But why can't PS just come with instructions? We need real instructions on the actual website in an easy place. There could even be links to the nessicary pages. Why not?

Well, there is the Guide, though I'll admit I haven't been keeping it as up to date as I should have. Hopefully, this should now have been corrected. If you have any comments on how I can improve it further, please feel free... your input is appreciated.
