pssetup and relight.
« on: July 24, 2006, 10:51:12 pm »
It seems, at least for me, that pssetup is missing some plugings to be able to do a offline relight of the maps. I tried to figure out by myself, but got stuck. I would guess it's only a matter pf copying some file from the psclient/resources to the pssetup/resources. Maybe someone can give me a hint?

I really need to relight the bd-area as half of the valley in front of the cage is pitch black to me. When i tried to use the normal psclient -relight, i had to cancel after 2 hours cpu(!) time, so i would rather like to do it in the background/overnight with the pssetup relight functionality. Any help or hint is appreciated.

To give you an idea of the CPU time it takes, it took me 8.5 hours to relight bronzedoors on a 700mhz eMac, in the CS "walktest" app which would possibly be marginally faster than psclient.  I tried helping someone get relight working in pssetup, I know that at a minimum it needs the dsplex & xmltiny plugins, plus an adjustment to the .cfg file (changing the part about iDocumentSystem to look like the 3 similar lines in psclient.cfg)

Other than that, not sure what would need to be done.. I recommend not walking in the black?  :)

Hi dfryer,

thanks for your reply. Meanwhile i solved the Problem with patience, by running the psclient with -relight and just wait. Took 2 hours on my G5.
But i will see if i can get my pssetup in shape for relight with your hints.

thanks & regards

How do you run the client with -relight? I know how you would do it on Windows but not on the Mac.

Use Terminal(.app). I can explain in greater detail... but, there's an easier way: I've provided a little Java app (which you can download from the Guide) thread that makes running Planeshift with command line options easy. Give that a whirl and tell me how it goes. :)
