ubuntu 6.06. planeshift client wont run

i originally had ubuntu 5.10  but i went along with a friend of mine and upgraded to 6.06, after the upgrade the planeshift client update and setup all will not run, i have re installed..and done everything i have seen in the forums that relates to my problem as to try and fix it.   i dont get any error mesg at all, when i click open or run on any of the icons, it appears as if i did nothing more but highlight them.  if i try using terminal it tells me the files do not exist about 50% of the time and the other 50% of the time its saying i do not have permision, even tho as far as i can tell i have set full rights for me to use the client updater and setup all 3.   

i downloaded the PlaneShift_CBV0.3.015b.bin from here, so i know its not a bad file, and as i said befor it was just fine befor the updhrade to 6.06

edit:  i also noticed when booting it tells me my hardware drivers failed...... this has something to do with it im sure, but im not sure how to fix that problem either  edit: fixed my drivers

We can't help unless we have some output. Can you paste whatever bad stuff happens in the console?

im not using console.....i didnt use consol last time i installed it either, i simple double clicked the .bin, fixed permisions and then double lcicked update and then client and i was on my way to playing,

As Xordan already said, we can't help you without more information and that information is shown only when you start the game from the console. It doesn't matter, how you are used to start it. If you want help, run the game from the console and then post here the output from the console.

i wasnt trying to say i dint want to start it another way, i actually ment to say that i did not know how.....and i kind of figured this problem might have to do with a common error in linux itself and not just PS  but if you tell me how to start from consol i will gladly give it a try


the comand that was givin already ./psclient and all of that dont seem to work it tells me file not found,

Assuming that you installed the game to /opt/planeshift, start the console and enter the following commands:

./psclient

If you installed it to somewhere else, replace /opt/planeshift with the proper directory name.

figured out how to fix it, but the fix only works for about 20% of the people with this problem so 100% solution...format back to 5.10

I have the same problem. And the updater is somehow broken too, it would load the files very slowly, only permanent minimizing and resizing of the window would help.

@Caprion: Can you post how you fixed the problem ? Probably it works on my system too.

Edit: In the console it says 

error while loading shared libraries: libXaw.so.8: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

In Synaptic theres no option to install that package only libxaw 7 and 6.

look for the libXaw.xo that is on your system and create a symlink to libXaw.so.8

6.06 has bugs in it, its really not a complete OS update, its a work in the making. i had to revert back to 5.10 because when i upgraded to 6.06 it cause alot of driver and file problems. so if you do want to go with 6.06, upgrade it befor you even open firefox, otherwise everything gets corupted and file loss and driver errors and this n that n gah 6.06 is just to much of a pain
