I agree with you Syilph: Yliakum's society is structured and organized yet that organization remains abstract for the players atm. However, we can't RP that there will be no legal consequences to crimes, that would be against settings too and would take the purpose of committing crimes away (there very notion of "crime" would be bogus). So, the idea of RPing a trial is something that requires a compromise between the laws that we don't know yet IG (but whose existence we must acknowledge) and the laws and practice of common sense (it's a crime to kill, to steal, to con, etc. and there should be a judge, jurors, etc.).

Yes, by RPing a trial we are winging it, knowing that in Yliakum there should be judges and a whole judicial system of some sort and that players would probably couldn't fill in those places spontaneously. So, there are basically two options: do we wait until settings are specific and game mechanics fixed so we have NPC judges, a courthouse or something similar to it and a jail? Or do we RP it knowing that as things get implemented we'll be doing some adjustments? Are we ready to RP a trial? I think we are. And the experience we've had can serve as a draft for future RP. Maybe we'll have a courthouse in Hydlaa soon (or a building which could serve as one other than the temple of Laanx) or maybe some laws will be posted in the settings which we can use in our RP and use what worked in this draft and change the things that didn't or wouldn't anymore, based on their effectiveness and the new game mech/setting releases. RP is alpha too when it comes to this sort of things, I believe.

This whole thread was started to talk about how we could manage for the lack of specifications on Yliakum's judicial system and we based the RP in the ideas discussed here, instead of just deciding in-game what would work best and just make up our own laws and settings. Of course this particular RP is not intended to set a rule, but to bring forth the topic and try to address it as a community.

@Karyuu: I posted this thread in the In-Game RP Events section because it was about the RP of the Killer of the Sewers yet when other RPs seemed to be evolving into possible trials the thread was turned into a more open discussion. Maybe we should move this to the General Discussion section?
