Hi,
yesterday we made some adjustments to the natural resources in game . We added some spots near ojaveda, so also the enkidukai people can easily mine and grow their economy without travelling to hydlaa, and also we removed platinum from the game. That material is not currently used for crafting, but just used as a money making machine, so we prefer to avoid it until the economy is more stable. In RP terms, that vein of platinum is depleted and new ones have been found.

These natural resources will be used pretty soon for crafting weapons and shields. We are working on making this possible through quests and books, it's already technically possible but players lack the knowledge on how to do it.

Thx for that marvelous info.  Just a few quick things.
By "that vein of platinum is deplted and new ones have been found" do u mean new veins of OTHER resources? cuz u said plat is no longer in  game.

Also, could you tell us a bit more about crafting? One main question I, and some other people I was talking to were wondering is whether we will be able to craft weapons with modifiers such as HEAVY short sword, Broad sword OF DEFENSE, and SILVERWEAVE dagger.  If so, which ones will we be able to produce?

Thx for the info and long ours of strenuous work ;)

from the crafting i have testing, i can tell you, that you are only able to craft
regular shields and weapons.
modified items are not possible to make (maybe it will be implemented later).

Thanks for the info Talad; Although I understand the motives for 86 ing the Platinum for now, I don't agree that the moneys effect has been negative for the game, especially at this stage where many crafts arent implimented and combat is buggy. The cash dirived from mining allows RP in the form of commerce and auctions, and for me, the drudgery of a mining job that has created caloused hands. 
I can imagine that adjusting perameters of an evolving game like this, with balance so there is satisfaction for the players, is a daunting task...but... (perhaps leaving the platinum til some other means of crafting is implemented?  :innocent:)

But, I suppose for now I will just RP it with coal and get a nice case of Black Lung.  ;)

Hold the phone. That makes no sense at all to me. The only purpose for platinum IS for making money, ingame or in real life. There is no useful 'craft' you can make with it in a medieval setting. High tech, yes, but not dark ages stuff. So, going by that, unless you plan on making jewelry and plat gilding part of the crafting system eventually, platinum would be useless in the game in an IC manner. No one would want it. But removing it now is just going to force more folks to 'camp spawns'.

In roleplay terms, the mining of materials and not turning them into a product is very realistic. Most raw stock is sent off to a place that specializes in purifying it, then it is shipped back. Therefore, not all materials need to have an immediate use. The thought of a blacksmith mining his own stock, smelting it, crafting it into a product, then selling it himself is a ridiculous concept at best.

In another note, combat is used for not much more than a money making machine as well. Should that be removed as well? But then, that would negate this game's purpose as a MMOPPG, wouldn't it?

There seems to have gone something wrong with removing the platinum. :oops:

Someone pointed out to me on the advisor channel that when you /dig silver, you still get platinum. I just checked and it is true. Judging from the large number of people mining near Zack again, this seems to be a common problem. I will make a bug report if this has not been done yet.

Another point, I agree that mining platinum was a way to make money too quickly, however, the amount of tria is the same as camping at most  gladiators in the arena. This seems to be a way to punish people who do not like killing for their money :)

The bug is fixed now and at this very moment the server is going to be restarted by the developers.

so platinum is really gone now.

well how exactly ARE we supposed to make money now? im not strong enough to camp at a glatiator, and i have no crafts to sell. are there even any available? i have been smelting iron for weeks and havent  gotten any closer to making anything usefull. and quite frankly, my character is a terrible salesperson. she tried to run a shop and got robbed. she doesnt have the carry capacity ot hold any kind of inventory, and now i need to buy 37 weapon repair kits a day cause they revert to 10 when i leave the game? im sorry, but im really a bit annoyed at this. at least leave us with SOMTHING. what with training, and repairs, my character will be hoplessly broke by the end of the week. the future looks bleak. :'(

yes thank you, im aware of that. are you aware of the fact that in a TEST game, we are suppose to find and point out problems so that they can be remedied? there is no point in blindly running around shouting, "everything is great!"

Wouldn't "pre-alpha" be ... before the developers themselves have even tested it?!

Anyway.. that's not important... thing to remember is.. all characters are getting wiped.. so it doesn't really matter what setbacks we have or how things screw us over in the game.. it'll all be gone... all wiped..  back to the start for us all..  in the near future.

There are plenty of opportunities for making money in game. I was hoping platinum could be mined and crafted into heavy magical armor and weapons. If it cannot be crafted, then it makes sense that they took it out for now. The game is becoming highly balanced, and many things have changed lately. It would appear that everybody on Team Planeshift has been working very hard the last week especially. I appreciate it, it is a great game.

yeah i have foubnd other ways of getting funds, but its certainly not as profitable, oh well.  i consider it a recession, haha. and now that the repair weapons bug seems to be fixed, its not so bad. im not spending my life savings on my weapons
