exception access violation errors and updater problems.

I'm having problems getting the game to work right. I get this:

When I try to get to the login screen.
When I try to update the game, I get this message:

 I thought a saw a thread adressing something similar to this, but I tried looking around the forums and could not find it again. I'm sorry if this is a known error already and I'm making an unnecessary post.

my system is like this:
Windows XP professional x64 edition [duel core]
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Duel graphics cards
Core Processor 4400+
2.21 GHz 1.00 GB of RAM

I've had problems in the past because of the duel core and duel graphics cards, but after a lot of research I got EverQuest 2 to work without any problems, and Elder Scrolls Oblivion.
I downloaded the patch, but because I have no way of purchasing winzip right now, I had to use a free unzipper [funzip] and move the patch folder manually into the PlaneShift folder, but I'm not sure if I did it right. I just copy and pasted it into the PlaneShift folder, I didn't override anything [I don't know what to override]. I've tried rebooting and re-installing. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

You need to open the patch folder .zip and extract everything from it using funzip, see if that helps.

Oh and if it syas it is password protected, restart your computer, and try again, if it still says that after you try to overwrite, try extracting to my documents and cut and pastying everything into the PS folder manually.

I'm trying to get the patch to overwrite, but it doesn't prompt me to do so. The funzip software does not allow you to specify an area to unzip things to, and it justs unzips them, and puts them in their own folder on the desktop.


this is what my planeshift folder looks like inside; the patch is just sitting in there in its own folder after I copy and pasted it from my desktop, I can't overwrite. Am I screwed, or did I put it somewhere incorrectly?

Can you not copy&paste the contents of the patch folder into the main PS directory?

Just open the folder of the patch and cut&paste everything.

Ah! that did the trick; thanks so much for the help. The updater still says that its newer than the servers, but the game so far is functioning.

I was excited to see the same error I was getting and thought I was home free. But it's still not working.

I'm also getting "Exception_Access_Violation 01f2d424"..(it's the same screenshot as posted by lag)
The updater gives the message "Your updater version is newer than the server's...server is out of date; stopping..

I found the "Updater.Zip" File and unziped it into the root dir. "c:\program_files\PlaneShift_Crystal_Blue" and Choose overwrite all.. It unpacked the files,.
I start the "psclient.exe" file and bam,.get the exception error again,.
I Uninstalled the program useing the uninstall.exe
rebooted
reinstalled
ran the Updater again
Found the "updater.zip" and unziped into the root again
Ran the psclient.exe and received the same error..

any ideas?

Hiya!

Nowhere in your post did I see mention of installing the patch. Did you skip this step or just neglect to bring it up? We have stickied Install Instructions, with a link to a separate patch you have to download and unzip into your main PS directory.

Reboot just to make sure that you have no PS processes running, download that patch.zip, and use it to overwrite the files in your PS folder.

yes, I installed/ran the updater. I just left that part out sorry..BUT I am up and running now. Here's what I did to fix it.

Instead of running the updater.exe file that is located in the Root Director I ran the updater.exe from the updatertemp Folder
C:\Program Files\PlaneShift Crystal Blue\updatertemp
This updater.exe file in the temp folder ran and updated for about 30 mins,..downloading files,..when done, I clicked the Launch! and Bam I'm in the Character create page!

I'm not sure why the updater.exe file in the root didnt work and at this point only care I'm getting in game,..

No no, I think you're misunderstanding. updater.zip has absolutely no place in the install process. You have to download a separate patch.zip. This one.

Everything is working after I did the following;

Installed "planeShift_CBVO.3.015.exe"
updater automactically ran after installation
ran updater
Launch Game from updater window but Crashed to the Exception error but then..
I ran the update.exe from the updater Temp folder (not root) - "C:\Program Files\PlaneShift Crystal Blue\updatertemp"
Then Launched game from the updater window
All is Well,..the game is running.
I'm in game right now..
