Donations Incentives?

I was just thinking it might be cool to provide a marginal incentive for those who donateto the dev and settings team. The idea is simple: "trophies" for donating, you could award nice little trophies to display on donators forum sig much like the awards for 2d or 3d art.

If it worked out various "prizes" could correspond with donation amounts coal, iron, silver, gold, and platinum.

If there is interest for this some our planeshifts wonderful artists might try to design the "trophies"

I'm not really fond of the "donate-and-get-something" mentality - no matter how small, really. I think that's something we are trying to avoid.

No way, before you know it people are buying trias in that way and this gets a commercial game.
Just donate and play this game.

No. Donations for game credit should not be allowed. It is substantially unfair to others who play the game, especially the kids. But donations should be given to the non-profit that runs Planeshift. Now if you wanted to put something in game (like a pillar that you could click on and see names) that THANKED those who made donations, that would be reasonable.

You can already make donations to PlaneShift - they'll be used only if the need arises; for example for special really-worth-it development tools, or temporary servers/hosts if ours go down for some reason and nothing else is lined up, etc. But rewards are not going to happen..

I think as long as we play the game and give our feedback, that is enough for the planeshift development team. If you want to praise and help the team, keeping the forums clean and having constructive feedback for them would surely help. For the long standing players helping newbies adjust to planeshift and showing them how to roleplay and answering the repetitive questions is also a huge help to the planeshift team. Word of mouth is a powerful thing and if we have players walking away with a good out look on the game, I think this would please the Developers and in a way reward them for their hard work.

Prizes saaukk. The ore idea is basically giving credits, or tria or whatever, and the day PS goes there, that is the day that I set out, on a new search, for THE mmorpg. But knowing that the team is not plaiged (Sp? ) by mortal things such as greed, It'll never happen, and PS holds the top spot..

Some of you seem to have missed something, I do not mean giving anything at all out IN Game. Nothing Nada, you get zero zip zilch i am talking about merely a little graphic to add to your forum signature. . .

Karyuu understood i believe, and i see the point Karyuu makes but many charities do something similar to what i set out. I dont mind Either way, this just was a suggestion to to be poked at.

Zorbels of course you are correct about the need for constructive approach to the forums and community, but all the feedback in the world wont buy needed equiptment etc. One can't trade good intentions of the players for software and hardware vital to the continued developement of the game.

At first it sounded as though donations would then 'buy' players ore in-game, but I see that you mean that donation amounts would just have different names. (Hopefully I'm interpreting it correctly this time.)

I think if people want, they can mention "PlaneShift Donator" in their signatures or similar. I worry though that anything more "official" will make it seem as though donators have more of a voice or influence in the community.
