« on: August 03, 2006, 08:59:57 pm »
When I download the client and put it on bit torrent to download nothing happens, like a connection failed. I've tried everything from redownloading bit torrent, reinstalling, restarting my cpu, nothing seems to work. PLEASE help me!

you don't put the client into bit torrent.

what you most likely have downloaded in the torrent file.

but nothing happens unfortunately doesn't commuicate very much. and also doesn't really happen.

what kind of error messages are being generated. what torrent client are you using. how big is the file that you are downloading, etc.

Ok, this is my understanding: you download Bit torrent, then install it. Then you download Planeshift crystal blue 0.3.015. Then you go to were you download it, you click on it and it brings up Bit Torrent and starts downloading. Is that right.

Here is what the Log says:

[4.20.4 2006-08-03 21:08:58] DEBUG   : created torrent

you are actually downloading the ps torrent file rater then ps itself. but so far it looks right. you may want to poke around the bittorrent site for more  info on if that is a correct behaviour for the bt client. give it time i think eventually you'll get the game in.

:ban:  Some ISP's actually block the ports used by bit torrent.. seems like a mean thing to do to linux people like me.. but when I call, they give me a long speil about software piracy and how common it is for people to use bittorrent to install illegal software.. >:(

You might call your ISP and see if those ports used by bittorrent are open.

 >:( ..So it seems my ISP has decided that if you are using BitTorrent- you are engaging in illegal activities. I dont buy it, but theres nothing i can do-- (and there is no other ISP in my area).  Sorry about the bandwidth drain. :ban:

You dont have to use the port suggested. You can try different ports, there are thousands to choose from.
Yes the port suggested will give you better speeds, but you can try others.
If you go to http://www.portforward.com/routers.htm it will guide you through step by step.
Try different Gamming ports, or another widley used port.
I have the same issue with my ISP, but by using a different port i have no problem :)

You may also want to try a different client. I've used bitTorrent on several platforms, and found it to be simply awful in terms of configurability, features, and raw download speed.
I've downloaded identical torrents using BT and Azureus, with Azureus being easily twice as fast at resolving peer connections and pulling the data across.
Azureus has much better tools for indicating if your firewall is interfering, if your ports are being blocked, etc.

Legolas, if you don't use torrents often, it might be easier to simply use the non-torrent method of getting the file, as mentioned by Kymizer. See http://www.planeshift.it/download.html, and click, for example,
http://www.psmirror.org/PlaneShift_CBV0.3.015.exe

Cheers.
