Big Battle Events
« on: February 05, 2003, 09:33:14 pm »
I know that many people are keen on fighting (and a lot of it - like guild wars). So i thought that planeshift could offer certain \'big battel events\' for all players that wouldnt involve pking.

What I mean is that there could be a common enemy (like \'Orks\' - can\'t think of any better name now) that would attack towns or settlements from time to time. At these events players will be able to support the NPCs to save the \'world\' ;) For instance you could walk up to a town guard and he could tell you that the town will be attacked and you can decide to assist the town.

As a reward you could get experience and maybe - what\'s more important - reputation.

These big events could also affect the storyline - so maybe one day allmost all guilds have to work together. Also guilds could be offered certain tasks like diversion or pre-emptive attacks on an enemy strike force.

What do you think of these ideas?

I think this was discussed on a previous post, some liked it some not. I think it would be cool, joining throngs of warriors to defend the defenseless against a blood thirsty horde of creatures emenating from the putrid crevacises of the earth ( Move over, Tolkien). Things might slow down to have that many people fighting in one place at a time.

I got an idea, if you are a big hero is one of these, say it takes a kill count from when the battle begins to when it ends, and the top ?? players get medals to place on their armor or clothing to display courage and valour protecting their home, however how many times you were killed has to effect something, just so some n00b couldnt run around make a kill, die, make a kill, die, etc.

that could be kinda cool, although to support a large scale war, it would probably have to be broken down into a numebr of smaller battles, possibly by having the \"enemy\" attacking on as many fronts as possible...
I like the idea of medals, but perhaps they could go in the player history instead of messing up my stealth suit with bright, shiny medals...(I\'m thinking Nexus TK here)

I like it, the idea of many smaller battles in different places sounds better, that way you still have the war, but not as many people fighting in one area. Ahh, I can\'t wait until 2005(notice! this is a personal prediction).

Smaller battles should do the trick.

When i read Jessyns reply another idea came to my mind:
During such a large war towns or cities could be in need of weapons, armors, wood or food. So players who choose not to be fighters could also take part in this war (and gain honor and experience) for building weapons or bringing in some food.

yes, it would put very high demand on everyone to save the town, and possibly it could be so hard that it would require a plan of attack. 8o

Yeah, I can\'t wait for it  :)) (A massive guild-war wouldn\'t be wrong either)

BTW: I think that players should be able to destroy buildings. So if you attack a guild-town you should be able to loot the villiage, destroy the houses, and set everything on fire.
Wouldn\'t it be cool if two guilds proved who were the strongest by having a full-scale war against each other?
The guilds who were the strongest would then destroy the other clans town until the leader cried for mercy. :))

I guess a bit of smoke in and around buildings would make people happy already ;)

that along with damage textures is probably possible... though I really know nothing about the engine, the only limitations I know for it are the ones I\'ve set in my head from hearing what I\'ve heard.

I could just imagine it, there could be archers in the towers by the gates, and possible towers all around.
...man thats where parts of the city being destroyed would be cool... \"THEYVE BREACHED THE SOUTH WALL, SEND REINFOCEMENTS!!!\"  and youd see a huge group of warriors *and builders* rush thru the town for that broken wall.  \"We\'ll hold them off, hurry up and close it!\"
 *clang of clashing steel*.

Or maybe some enemies dont even need to break down the walls, they come over, either they fly, or they climb, maybe some could already be in the town disguised... HAVE I GOTTEN CARRIED AWAY YET!?!?!?! *feints from the idea of all the great battles*

Seems like everyone generally agrees. Defending towns would be cool. Breaking the war into small attack groups would make sense anyway, right? I mean, first the archers would attack to take out people from a distance. Once they\'re expelled, then the brute force takes arms to kill any survivors, THEN soldiers on horseback. I think that\'s how it goes. Anyway, I like it.
