Scavenger Hunt
« on: August 10, 2006, 11:30:29 pm »
All you hunters, trackers, and foragers with nothing to do - listen up!
A Scavenger Hunt will be held in one week (time up for debate)
With the organization of several separate teams
And their pursual of a list of items, which will given at the beginning of the event.

There will be four different teams with 10 players in each[/color] - and the search for team leaders starts right now! Nominations will be taken here as well as through PMs.

The teams will first gather by the Eagle Head at the Bronze Doors fortress, where they will then be told what items they need to hunt for. (So be sure to have a pen and a piece of paper ready!) All items needed can be easily attained, and do not require hidden side-quests. The first team to return to the Eagle Head with all the items (there will be 30) wins, and each member will receive a reward!

To make this absolutely fair, all participants will have their inventories checked to make sure that no team will already have everything in their hands. (And we do have a way of checking!) Exceptions will be made only for coin, glyphs, and weapons already in the participants' hands.

If you need a temporary storage solution, please arrive an hour earlier at the named location to have your excess items checked in - you will be given a number to remember, so that we can later easily match stored item-piles with players. Don't worry, your items will be in an inaccessible location to everyone, until they are handed back to you at the end of the event.

Since the four teams can only be comprised of 10 members, 40 participants overall will be accepted. This number may be adjusted if enthusiasm of the event becomes overwhelming

So either post your team leader nominations here, or apply as a participant yourself! Once we have the leaders established, you can either choose the leader you would like to be under or let us put you into random group.

The one thing that we need to discuss further is the time for the event. What works for the majority? Weekend or weekday, and what time period of the day, GMT?

Hope everyone has fun!

Mirashi: the server can handle such a load just fine! :) Tested and proven.

Gyerfry: this event isn't likely to happen within a week, so you have plenty of time to explore. Ask someone for a tour or directions sometime. But to just give you a hint of where to go: exit Hydlaa city from the gates where that single tall brown tower is, and follow the road straight ahead. (Is there still a fork to the magic shop there? I'm completely forgetting. If you see a forest path with a fork, take the left road.)

I'd be keen to join in on the action, if for no other reason than to be one of the 40-odd people who, having received their Scavenger Hunt orders, run as fast as possible back to Hydlaa City . . .

 . . . . . . . . . . . . . stam - PEDE . . !!  :o

Although, living in the southern hemisphere n' all, I'm wondering what local time it'll be held at?  My character won't do his team any good if he's still sittin' by the side of the road drinking coffee when the dust clears . . .

Also, will participants know who their team-mates are before the event?  Having an open yet private channel of communication with your team would be a huge advantage, and so I could see resouceful teams looking to form a Guild so as to use /Guild-talk . . .

I might want to do it. But with my luck, I'll fall off a cliff and die right before I'm supposed to bring the critical last item back. (Cliffs have a way of spoiling events for me. I outright missed the Scions of Wyldewood quest competition because I fell off a cliff, and I pretty much missed all of the hunt for the killer for the same reason.)

I think using /group for teams will work just fine :) And yep! You will know who you team members are before it starts.

I'm still unsure of the time - and since no one has made any random suggestions yet, how about I throw something out just to get things going. It'll be difficult to catch all timezones, definitely.

20GMT, Saturday the 19th? Will 1-2 hours later be too late for some folks?

Siteri: Don't the cliffs dissuade you! Show 'em who's boss :)

Is it possible for those PlaneShifting with the Mac OS X Client to actually cross the sector map boundary from bdroad2 to bronzedoorsout or bdout or whatever it is called?

Edit: CONFIRMED! Yes, I just entered the BD Region Outer sector map and No Boundary Crash!  \\o//

I have heard that this has been fixed some time ago. If anyone can confirm that, it would be great.

20:00GMT Saturday 19th = 08:00 Sunday 20th NZ time . . .

. . . eight in the morning?  On a Sunday?  In the middle of winter . . ?

The things I do for the PlaneShift community . . . :innocent:

I'm thinking a few hours later would probably be a little kinder to anyone around these parts . . . but, as ever, the good of the many out-weigh the good of the few . . .

. . . but if it eventuates at a time that works, I'm there.

Yeah, the Bronze Doors work on Macs now. (Or as Siteri would say, "the curse of the evil wizard Macintosh has been lifted!")

If this old coot is allowed to partake in the nights activities I would like to throw my name in the hat.  Any time that weekend works for me, I'll actually be off for those 3 days.
