i agree with the fact that the first idea of a glamorous coloured road would be misplaced given the idea of PS.

And i will try to see if i also can find such a picture.
But again this is just a wishlist/ what if section of the forum.
But the river stones in a fishermens village does sound awefully right.
And when i think about it u are very correct in saying that it needs a thougt and it should make sense in the world and not resemble a colouring book of a 5 year old :)

Good, we're advancing ; )

Last minute pictures. The above could be made to fit the general walk of the city roads, note, I don't mean cities. Cities should have more organized cobbles to be representable. Smaller villages could make use of these, though.

More greytone. Somehow reminds me of discipline, though the pattern isn't what it's said to express. Hmm. This pattern could also be used when accessing taverns.

As you wanted a more beautiful look because of grandeur. Here's a thought.

What do you think.

Will need to find some better ideas.

and thats exactly how i pictured it   \\o//

city´s get straight nice cobblers villages/slums /outskirts would be the more irregular stones irregular in colour...by that i mean some are grey some are grey brownish , maybe a hint of steelblue to give it a cold stoney effect.
I was thinking....would it help if tried to make a colour scheme of Ylkiaum ( i hope thats the way to write it) . Cause it woudl really improve teh overall glamour and appeal of teh city.
And the tavern remark is spot on. But what if the road -when u enter the city from teh spell shop side- is  somewhat irregular shaped much liek ur first picture and then after the big staircase ( hehe wich one :) ) it is more strict as it says this is the big boys city. We have money we need to atract customers to come to our shops.
There is also place for brownish filthy looking stones or coblers? english isnt my native tongeu,
at the sewers cause a place where there is a direct entrance to a sewer should look more dirty because of the filth that gets carried out of by peopel moving in and out. Thus it would help starting players to identify parts and gates by the roads. since E, N, W and S coudl be anywhere atm :P

I wish i coudl go on but its 3.30 am and i think i shoudl force myself to bed  :D
lets hold that thougt cause we´re definatly on teh road to something doable, esthetic and realisticaly justifiable :)

Sohai, I'd suggest before you start. Don't post it in this forum. The devs have a rule, what happens in the forum, stays in the forum and will not affect their opinion at all other then for inspirational purposes. If you want to help the dev team, look up Talad, aka Luca, in Planeshift's irc chat #planeshift on freenode. The exact address can be found on the signature of a chap called Thompheonix. Get Mirc and connect to the server, then join #planeshift. I am saying this just to be sure you understand it if you haven't used Mirc before, just PM me if you need to ask anything.

Remember, don't post concepts you want in the game on this forum. Save it for later publishing in another forum or just ball the ideas directly with Talad or any of the developers.

I wish you the best of lucks.

Hmmm. Just a little reality check here. Ylaikum (the world of PS) is relitively small. The races have been here for over 700 years, and have populated every corner of the realm. We have no roads that you would not be hard pressed to tell from a game trail or dry riverbed...

Something wrong with that picture?

What I am saying, is the roads would be well built and kept up by now. They would have clear marking (border) stones, and either well paved, or well rutted paths. Different colors? Not likely, as the world is small enough that the people would have found the best type of stone and carried it to all roads. the exception would be the various Levels, as it is hard to lift rocks up that high. On the other hand, if the quary was on the First Level.... look out below.

I am sure they have plans for all this...

I see were you're going with this, UTM, and i partly agree with you.

If you've followed the thread correctly you should see that we did not mean "colored" brick roads as in colored fence, and looking at the pictures, we added some possibilities to how pavement would look like outside certain places.

As for heavily stomped paving out on the roads, I see your point. I forgot to check that we were In a Stalactite! and that there would be no rain, and therefore no need for cobble, point taken. Though, I'll say this, Ylians have a tradition for cobbling their cities and are one of the working-races in Yliakum, therefore they'd at least brought a piece of their tradition into Yliakum.

I'm not saying it's right, i'm saying it is a possibility.
