So many processes
« on: August 14, 2006, 02:08:16 am »
Why are there so many different processes for PSclient?
I took a look at the Task manager's process list and even after I closed the game... there were about five other processes for PS client! :detective:

close them off, or reboot. they are a side effect of some crashes.
may laanx frighten the shadow from my path.
hardly because the shadow built the lexx.
the shadow will frighten laanx from my path.

I find they are a side effect of exiting the game by any means  ;)
Had 4GB of mem used by them at one point. Now part of exiting the game for me is checking my task manager just in case.

Hi,

Yes, I get those too. Like the client was unable to properly unload itself. I remember there's been problems on the quit before, at least on windows client.

Sometimes I also get the following error (not very helpful by the looks of it though) when exiting PS client:
"
Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

Runtime Error!

Program: ...psclient.exe

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.
"

Sometimes this error appears even when quitting at the login screen (without logging in Laanx). Haven't tested extensively, but looks like the client can fail to close even if no error appears and vice versa.

In any case there should be only one psclient.exe running when you play, so can close the rest like steuben and Siofra suggested. In my case each instance reserves about 220MB of memory, slowing down other applications.
