Option for Custom Sound Trax!!
« on: August 16, 2006, 02:19:07 pm »
The background music is kool and i'm sure they bring u a some what better experience, but i am sure that many of us would want a little change form time to time. If u play the game for over 3 mths. and play very often, then eventuallly u get bord of the same combat music, and other background music.

A little variation is good. I turned off the background music and have my Media Player in the background, (Disturbed, Metalica, Linkin Park, etc.) but not everbody's computer can do that, some are not fast enough to run the two applications smothly, so they don't have that option, so i guess this would be a good suggestion.

If you want another song to play or whatever, simply take the song you wish to play, rename it to the one you wish to replace and put it in the PS folder over top of the old song.  You might want to make backups before you do that though.

I know this is an old topic, but you need to convert the files to .ogg first. I've made a guide on how to do this here

Wow, this somewhat old.
Nontheles it would be nice if there were like 5 combat musics and they would play at random or/and depend from the kind of fight. Thats just one example with combat music as example.

Bacground music from different areas could be cutted into 10 parts, a bit of would be also added and these 10 parts can be played at random, so that it won't be the same song over and over again, but something less monotonic.

What you can failure tommorow, failure today.

That's exactly what I was thinking. But I imagine that will come with time.

I like the idea of varying the combat music.  It would make it tolerable.

I've been here since... TODAY! and actually i've just had one go with planeshift. Nevertheless... since I have some experience with programming and such... I went and looked to the WTB member apply form. I saw that there is a "music" department in which one could try to apply. But then... they don't mention what skills they require for it...

They want musicians, composers, or only people who are able to create midis??? OR WHAT??

yes, I find interesting this of having random music in order to not get bored... but to do so, developing team needs to create the music... original soundtrack music...

Every now and then I swap out the default music for the Naruto soundtrack, just to shake things up.  The songs aren't long enough though, so it gets repetitive after a while.  It works best when I have a lot of traveling to do, so they keep changing out.

What would be nice is if Planeshift searched for music files named similarly to battle_X.ogg, where X can be any number.  If there is just one, it would play that one.  If there are more, it would either randomly choose one or play them sequentially.  The preferences could specify which method.  That way you could add and remove extra tracks, allowing for custom soundtracks with more flexibility.  I could have a couple long tracks, or many shorter ones.  Or many long ones if I felt like it.

And yes, I know I could turn off music and play whatever I want in the background, but it wouldn't switch based on location and activity.
Did you get the number on that one-eyed rat?

I think just a simple option of being able to choose what music you want played would work. Like a selection of all the different tracks.

It's usually when you're standing around not doing anything when the music starts to get on your nerves.
