to recognize sacks
« on: August 16, 2006, 11:14:53 pm »
friends of mine have problems with their sacks, cause you need to open the bag to know what is in it. In real life, you just recognize the bag, and that helps you to remember what is in it.
Some people asked for labelled sacks (changing their name)... i don't really like the idea. I would prefer colored sacks. In the blue one, i put my weapons, in the red one, the books... of course everybody can choose what he will put in those sacks.

so ?

here is how u implement both:

colors:  take a vial of dye [hair dye] and put it onto the bag to color it
Written:  Put ink&paper which you can get from [can't say spoiler] and put it onto bag where upon you get to type in your short mesage

Hi,

I like the distinguishable sacks idea. Could be colours, labels or simply different types of containers. I remember a game Ultima Underworld, where I used to put different items in different types of containers; gems in a pouch, weapons in a box, foods in a sack.

First: why you put something to a bag?
- to increase total capacity?
- to decrease a bit the weight of the carried item? (it always weights equally, but wear in differnt ways may be more or less efficient)
When you put an item into a bag RED, the items background becames red. They stay in normal inventory field, in its containers (no additional containers needed, alternatively you can have extra field with all what is in the sack after clicking it, but it isn't necessary).
By this you don't have to search first for the bag and then in every possible bag, to see where is that golden ring which you had. Of course there may be tabs for groups of items which are in each bag if you think the searching should still be there.
Now you will probably say that the inventory has not enough containers for this idea. Imagine unlimited containers and read my posts in here: http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=25171.0

Well, so many things already depend on colors in MMOs that I don't think now is the time to take serious color blindness into consideration :}
Judge: Are you trying to show contempt for this court, Mr Smith?
Smith: No, My Lord. I am attempting to conceal it.

haha yeah but it would be nice. most of the colors now really dont cause many problems. the blue from green could be a bit tricky unless like on many other games you change your monitor settings then its fine ,,,,, the i think they are blue? npc names look white and the player names are green.....now say npcs were a difrent shade of green then you would have newcomers talking to harnquist about the ulber they just got killed by  :D

and if you are infact color blind, this would go for anyone, i give you our deepest sympathies, you may now have to open your sacks, take notice if that rotting monster is actually result of death(red target) or bad hygene, and make sure it goes health, mana, physical, then mental.   Labels would be a good idea though, not just because of the color blind, but also just a personal preference.

Hi,

I'd like to add few things to Nikodemus' list:

- to protect the item (weather, bacteria, spying eyes...)
- to keep items organized

There could be different colours of dyes to choose from. Players could colour their sacks to which ever hues they prefer, this way the colour blind persons can choose colours that they can most easily distinguish. The dyes could also be used multiple times on one item, to produce different lightness values (light, medium, dark), so you wouldn't have to rely completely on colour.

Personally I don't like the idea of seeing a sacks contents without opening the sack, it's just too automated for my taste. I think it adds a nice touch of realism that if your containers are poorly organized, you'll have to search through them to find what you seek. If you keep your inventory tidy though, you'll know exactly what you put where.
