About body-zones!
« on: February 08, 2003, 11:59:13 pm »
Will there be body-zones in Planeshift? With \"body-zones\" I mean zones on your body where you can get hurt, or tattoo yourself.
If a monster hits you in the face with his claws for example it would leave a scar (which heals by time).
Injury should even affect your condition, so if a monster breaks your foot you cannot run, if he breaks your arm your attack gets weaker and your aiming sinks.
If the monster is strong it could even mutilate your limbs so that some players walks around with prosthes (until they find a hospital who can replace their limbs.
You should also be able to tattoo yourself at \"the tattoo palace\" (a shop where you buy tattoos)
It would be more realistic, and it would make players become more unique.
You could also see what path a player had choosen by looking at his/her body (warriors usually have more scars than bards right?) :)

BTW: I think male players should have the ability to shave themselves. Beards should grow by time.

The shaving thing would actually solve the \"dwarfen woman\" thread as well... Let the woman decide if they want a dirty beard or not. ;)

At the moment it\'s a little too early to say.   I think that a lot of this stuff like tatoo\'s, scars, etc can be easily done by just changing the textures a little bit so that may be a reasonable thing to eventually do.

As for things like replacing limbs I think that would be much harder since all our models are treated as one unit so at the moment I cannot see a way for this to be done.

Wouldn\'t it be nice if the scars had a scale from \"light wound\" to \"very bad wound\"?
If the wound were \"light\" you would just have a small scar (which you could use \"plaster\" on to make it heal faster).
If a player had a \"very bad wound\" he shouldn\'t be able to use the injured body-part, and the HP meter should go down until he used \"bandage\" on it.

on shaving
« Reply #5 on: February 09, 2003, 12:49:22 am »
I like the idea of shaving, if only because it looks pretty.  Would a barbers shop be appropriate for that sort of thing?  Then the hair could be cut for a small fee.  Also, hair of any sort (ahem) could show the health of a character.  IE; if a character eats a lot then he will have a healthy black beard.  If he is eating adequately then his beard would be a brown/gray colour.  If he\'s eating dirt then his beard would be white and he would quite simply look ugly.
Don\'t be brash and take that stash of hash you found in the trash, it won\'t get you cash but you will dash out to splash something on the nasty rash it gives you.

This also becomes thought-provoking concerning the Enkidukai. You could grow a mane, perhaps, and if certain areas on the body (Tail, neck, chin) weren\'t shaved with some regularity, they would grow shaggy. This is especially important (and perhaps the makers have set themselves up for it) because it points out in the races section that Enkidukai often cut or colored their fur to show alleigance to a clan.

About piercing damage
« Reply #8 on: February 24, 2003, 10:45:09 pm »
Hmmm, came to think about something.
What about piercing damage? Will arrows/bolts/darts be able to go throught PCs/NPCs/monsters body? I\'m thinking about big battles with a lot of archers. It would look good if players around you gets shot down by arrows, and you see players and monsters who have been shot down lying there with an arrow right throught their stomach, half dead players who is crawling on the ground with bolts thought their legs crying for help.
The game would be more relistic that way, and the battles would be more interesting. :)

BTW. If a player have an arrow throught his leg he shouldn\'t be able to walk, and if the arrow has went throught your sword-arm it\'s pretty unrealistic if you could fight with it anyway.
The arrow should have to be removed if you shall be able to fight again.

You could have a scissors item where when you click it opens a menu w/ a pic of ur charYou could then select hair lengths and cut hair to that length.

As for body hair and thought-provoking Enrikudai, things also become interesting when it comes to Kran. Should they grow things similar to hair at all? If yes, then what will they grow? Extra mineral deposits or stalictites? Should they grow hair anyways?

In battles, I\'m not sure if some people like to see people with arrows sticking out of their skulls or broken daggers through a leg. Sure, it\'s more realistic, but I think that gore should be kept to a minimum.

Another thing about battles and body zones is hit points. Perhaps each \'body zone\' has a certain amount of hits it can stand, and when the hits go down to zero, that particular body part cannot be used again.

Will add more later. I think.

I really hope there will be a hit zone models with many different parts(foot, legs, low body, chest, arms, hands, neck, head and so on if you want it more detailed) because different hits should make different damage and effects. You wont die by a hit to legs or arms but could do run or hit less effectiv, but a hit to head or a slice through neck would immediatly kill you.
This would really affect how the skill of someone shows in a fight, and leaves mcu tactics for a fight.

Well, first of all this is not a game designed for a ten-year-old right? Besides, it was possible in Zelda lll (try to shot a guard with your bow and see what happens ;) )
Neverwinter nights had it, so why cannot PS have it? It\'s pretty boring if the arrows/darts/bolts just disappear when they hit their goal.

I like th idea of the arrows and other pointies in the corpses, but i digress.  I would like to be able to basically have an NPC(barber) who could change what hair you have, but I don\'t think it should require regular maintenance.  As Kiern said, there\'s enough of that in real life.  Anyone ever played Nexus TK?  they had an NPC who could change your hair and face(and even gender!) for a price.  I  just want the hair.

any modellers out there, can I have green ponytails for the dermorian?
