New and totally lost

Er I'm pretty certain I'm on the wrong board here but theres so much to read and take in. I'm brand new and each time I try to create a character I get 'The page cannot be displayed' There were loads of error messages too on installing game and I havent started playing atall. I know I should be posting elsewhere so my apologies, it's uk 3am and I'm knackered. But please help. Maybe you could put this in the right board as I havent got a clue. Too many things to read and get into my head. I just wanna play the game. Help!

wow somebody actually uses the word knackered.

when you create the char you shouldn't be getting page cannot be displayed... you should be getting everything else. are you trying to register your accout? and what link are you working with?

and what error messages are you getting?
have you updated?

and there is actually precious little to read. we need more.

First thing that happened was I downloaded and installed the game but when I went to log on I was told my user name did not exist, even though it was verified on my email. So I re registered with the same user info, attempted to log on and was told, This user already has an account ,even though it'd just told me that I didn't exist earlier! Huh?

 So I decided to try again, uninstalled first one which was called 0.Mirror etc and used another user name and another email address. But this time on download I kept getting messages saying 'ERROR with such and such a file, and should I Abort, Retry or Ignore? I pressed retry and got the same message so I ignored and skipped one of loads of files that had 'errors' on them.

Eventually after about 2hrs download things came up as fine and I read the rules and regs then clicked on'Character creation' the second I hit enter a page comes up saying 'This page cannot be displayed, the page you are trying to open maybe temporarily unavailable' and such, so no game and no char, waah! Incidentally just before I wrote this I tried that again, the char creation, and have just got the same message. By the way, IS this the write board? Don't wanna be told off. P.S. Yeah I updated too by the way. Forgot to mention that earlier. I simply can't start the game or create a charactor and I really wan't to.

That is so weird! Can you take a screenshot of that message? I have never seen it come up nor thought that it's possible - you're not using a browser, afterall.. I'm very curious.

When you have typed in your username to login, did you make sure 100% absolutely positively that you made no typos, and that there were no hidden left-over characters in the box? You'd be surprised at just how many times people think they are typing correctly, and then realize there was just a small typo somewhere. I'm a victim as well

If you got errors during the installation and skipped files, things are not going to work correctly. Redownload from the mirror that worked, reinstall making sure you don't "skip" anything this time, clear the username and password fields completely, and type with excrutiating slowness and precision your username (which would be your entire registered email address) and the password you have chosen.

Karyuu he is using a brower, which is why hes getting error, anyway back to teh orgig problem

your char was probably made, it just sometimes takes a while for the database to be updated.

What "Character Creation" link are people clicking online? o.O

Only something like this would happen to me. I've checked and treble checked my spelling and they're fine. Just tried yet again to create char and  you can guess the rest. Reading further on that message it said if I tried to reach the desired page through a link then to get back to an admin and apparently report a fault with it. But I know it can't be you 'cos everyone else is ok!  I'll uninstall EVERYTHING again as you suggested but I'm a bit despondent now as I'd already done this after the first attempt failed. Thanks for replying though.

Also regarding sending you a screenshot of the 'page cannot be displayed', how do I do that? I'll gladly do so if it might help but how do you do it?  

Hope I'm not doing your head in too much but ya never know, if this is the first time this type of problem has come up and you guys can fix it then creds to you. If not, then I'm doomed NEVER to play PlaneShift.

well from what I understood this is what he means:

He reged an account online.
He could not logon.
He tried to create the account again.
Said it already existed.
He reinstalled/etc
He tried to create an account again, the webpage gives him 404. etc error.

dusk33, uninstalling and reinstalling and repatching and reupdating can be a very daunting task, but if you can do it one more time - definitely do it. Make sure you uninstall your old version first and that you have no PlaneShift folders or files remaining at all, then download from that good mirror once more and do the installation, patching, and updater-running.
