Unknown PCM default
« on: August 23, 2006, 03:33:26 am »
I seem to have no sound with the latest linux client but Im questioning wether its just a PCM setting client side merely because of the following:

DEBUG: Sound System Software Renderer Initializing...
ALSA lib pcm.c:2146:(snd_pcm_open_noupdate) Unknown PCM default

System PCM settings and so forth look fine and sound works otherwise across the board.
I have tinkered with the buffer setting described before with no luck.
I have also tried to use the OSS option but it immediately segfaults soon as sound attempts to play. Might be important to note I do start to hear sound with OSS though just before it crashes.
An strace of when using the OSS option doesnt seem to have any pertinent info but I could be wrong.

The system is a P4 2.8Ghz, 512MB. Multimedia audio controller: Ensoniq ES1370 [AudioPCI] (rev 01).  All other sounds work fine in other apps and games. I do NOT have a sound daemon running though I have tried it with one and still no joy.

I also have seen no other messages on start up or during play referencing any sound issues.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

Are you positive that you don't have 2 sound devices and one is muted since its not the one you normally use?  Mine was giving that error for a disabled soundcard.  I can't remmeber how I forced it to look at the other one though...

Daeamarth, if You use binary installer, delete alsa library files (libasound*) from <planeshift_dir>/libs and let PlaneShift use those installed in Your system. It should help.
