I would just submit the rat on the deadline if I were you, if they think it's good I'm sure they'll allow you to finish it up a bit ;)

I would like to suggest not to use only the winning skin, but instead implement a technique to use a random skin on spawning -- Enkidukai have different skins too, so rats with random skins were just a perfect way to add a quant more of reality. ;)

A reminder to folks: two entries maximum per applicant! This doesn't mean you need two. But it does mean that you can't submit three or more. If someone made that mistake, only the first two will be counted.

A friend just brought this "More than one way to skin a rat" contest to my attention. 

Working strictly in 2D is like trying to paint a Mona Lisa through a keyhole, while standing up on a hammock...

But I will try again to get the viewing package to work on my winbox...

If I have any time left after that, and come up with anything worth looking at, I will share it.

Another option is to have another type of rat say called "Sewer Rat".  Many games overcome fewer monsters by making several skins for the same mesh and giving it different names.  Sort of like genus variation. Each rat would be a different species.  Some rat species could be more difficult and the differences in appearance should make it easy to distinguish.

On another note my first entry has been submitted.  I notice in the entry form that I can only submit it as myself but I want to make sure it is known that this was a joint effort between Jekkar and myself.

Induane - a new species would mean that all those spawns will always create the same texture variant.

I would prefer that the same spwan could create variants of the same species, which will add a random factor.

If there were enough awsome entries it would be a simple matter for each level of mobster to have a few skins :D  Maybe I'm overly optimistic

I would hope that if there really were two good enough that they would use them both.  As for the losers they will probably post a list of all submissions and who did them.  Discussions will ensue, some jokes will be made and we'll all have fun :D
